The line-up of trumpet, bass and drums represents the nucleus of jazz: Melody and rhythm in their purest form. Thanks to the incredibly transparent instrumentation, the protagonists‘ melodic ideas go straight to the listener’s ears and heart. The trio is complemented by US saxophonist Bill McHenry, who sets an emotional climax at the end of the album with a moving interpretation of the classic ballad „The Meaning of the Blues“. The contrasting repertoire is held together by the strong musical personalities of four congenial storytellers. An extraordinarily organic sound gives the listener the impression of being in the middle of the music or even swimming in the ears of the musicians through a constant stream of musical ideas.

Recorded in July 2023, the album features original compositions by each member of the band.
With In Motion, we explore the meeting point between South African and Western European musical traditions. Allegories reimagines 16th-century madrigals through the lens of Nguni-Sotho music and Black Atlantic histories — challenging colonial narratives and building a new story: one not bound by domination and submission, but shaped by mutual recognition and creative freedom.

Led by multi-award winning musicians, Vuma Levin, Théo Duboule, and Martin Perret, In Motion represents a meeting of South African and Western European musical cultures.
The project seeks to establish a creative dialogue between folkloric musics from Switzerland and South Africa, focusing on the period prior to and during the early stages of colonialism.
The result is a new album out on 11 July 2025, titled Allegories, that charts a wholly new artistic direction situated at the crossroads of multiple musical traditions.
In support of the release, this stellar cast of local and international musicians will be undertaking an album launch tour across South Africa in July.
