Hello everybody The long lost Shifty Records release for The Cherry Faced Lurchers 'The Otherwhite Album' has finally reached the front of the pressing queue. The records should arrive in Cape Town and Amsterdam during the first half of October 2021. This small, seemingly insignificant announcement comes as a victory for a small indie label in South Africa. For those of you who are not aware, global vinyl production slots have been ridiculously difficult to secure with the massive increase in demand for vinyl. Waiting times are anything from 6 to 8 months. There are still copies of the 180g black vinyl variant available to pre-order via www.permanentrecord.co.za and European customers can order via The Good Times Co. online store. Testing, testing, 1, 2 3… Is this thing on? I reckon it is. Over the last 2 years I’ve been having conversations with @shiftysince84 custodian and co-conspirator Bill Botes about doing a James Phillips release retrospective on vinyl. It was unanimously decided that the ever-elusive ‘87 The Otherwhite album would be our first endeavour. Assembling the final package was no small feat. We had input from original band members and friends of the band who lived through those strange and turbulent times. Extensive liner notes were assembled & edited and the album was remixed from the original master tapes. The end result was mastered for vinyl. Now that the heavy lifting has been done, and we are all patiently waiting for the records to be pressed I can take some time to reflect and thank everyone involved. In no particular order, thank you to Lloyd Ross, Shaun de Waal, Bill Botes, Lee Edwards, Richard Frost, Mark Bennet, Steve Howells & Jannie van Tonder. Willem Möller mastered the digital. The vinyl master was done by Ross Fin at @fin_mastering . @dream_press_sa printed the stunning special edition Riso prints. Lastly, thank you James for the music.
