Itās episode 12 of finding inexpensive / free activities to do in Singapore šøš¬ (defence edition!!)
A walk in the park in Singapore, could rly be that deep⦠in this episode, we had the absolute pleasure of War Historian, and Co-Founder of Total Heritage - Dr John Kwok
@drjkwok to take us on a forest walk filled with so many untold stories! š¤
We also had lore regarding the strategic position of the ridge but yāall watch the video can find out why šš
This collaboration also sparked because Dr John and I connected
@siforg āS Voices of Us where a group of creators, volunteers and collaborators came together to discuss our nationās multiculturalism and our National identity.
A few things from that day stuck with me: firstly, how history is about facts, but also greatly the importance of the historianās order and context in which the facts are presented, it made me think of all the different narratives that we as Singaporeans have of our own culture. Next, if we start to forget our cultures by not practicing them, it may lead to an erasure of the fabric of our nation. The team behind
@hiddenheritage.sg tours in Singapore shared a few photos with the crowd depicting a few Orang Laut dishes, which we donāt see as often anymore. This made me ponder deeply, what would I want to keep with me / share with the generations to come? Lastly, one of the volunteers deeply impacted me. Sundram shared a line that said āAspire, to inspire before you expireā. It seriously made me re-consider the impact and the work Iāmā doing online, to go back to the core of why i started social media - to tell stories, and to give voices to the people who feel unseen in society.
A huge point of curiosity for me, after the event was also about our rich history, that is often overshadowed by new buildings, and the somewhat erasure of the old artifacts. Lmk what yall think and where / what other sites we should explore next!
