Lesson 16/25 lessons I’m trying to unlearn. I’m not falling behind in life. This is something I’ve battled with since teen hood tbh, mildly pitted against the cousins, being in schools where we were constantly awarded for outperforming our previous selves, growing up surrounded by icons on social media which led me to believe that I’m constantly falling behind. This year I’m rewriting the narrative because success looks and feels different on everyone. Even the definition of success means something so different to everyone, and I’m gonna be more conscious from now on šŸ«¶šŸ» to be kinder to myself and be less of a critic If you wanna journal your own retrospective lookback, here are some prompts: 1. What wins did I have in the last 3 months? (I would dig through my photo album / calendar for this! EDIT: don’t fret if you can’t find wins, small wins like getting up to go to work on a day where you feel absolutely horrible, count too!) 2. What could I be doing better / if there’s any areas of improvement? Also a huge thank you to the hundreds of people who made these milestones even possible 🄹 I appreciate all of yall fr #relatable #wellnessjourney #mentalhealth

last year in late October / early November I remember crying my eyes out on a cold evening when I was in Hamburg with my fiancĆ©. The trigger? A slew of hate comments across a few videos on Tiktok. A lot of thoughts went through my mind: ā€œwhy do they seem to hate me so much?ā€ ā€œDid I do anything wrong?ā€ ā€œWhat did I ever do in this lifetime that triggered such hateful behaviour?ā€ ā€œIs my physical being in any way triggering?ā€ I asked my fiancĆ© who at the time by the graciousness of his heart had to deal with my heavy heart, sat next to me with many potential solutions: starting a new platform, using a VPN to reach new audience, limiting my comments through the use of keywords. But I remember being so lost that I didn’t do anything for a month or 2. Fast forward a whole year, 2 new platforms (@mathilda.explores on IG and TT), and many new friends made online, later - I’m reminded why I advocate for online safety on the internet and why I’m rooting for creators to take care of their mental health while being on social media. I am proud that I never succumbed to those messages. I am grateful I’m still here today, to be the creator who is never afraid to speak up against online harms and I will always advocate for a safe, healthy and social environment. Today is world mental health day, but it’s also a reminder to me that bullies will NEVER win. Today you’re also witnessing one of the highlights of my career and I thank you, if you’ve been here for a day, or for the last few years. From being a victim, to now being a creator with impact. I’m also grateful there are so many different parties - from NGOs, to government sectors, to platforms and individuals who are here as support systems to ensure a safe experience is not one that’s optional, but default. Remember, we have the power and responsibility to shape how positive / toxic the online space can be. Let’s use this power for good, together šŸ„¹šŸ¤

I filed my taxes the other day (this post was written in April) and thought of the process as a way of acknowledging my past versions for getting us to the me you see today. Wow what a sentence. But really - I’m immensely grateful every single day that this is my job and I will never take this opportunity for granted!! And I will continue showing up for the girls who look like me, the girls who have the biggest dreams and the audacity to chase them and I will always strive to be a better version of myself off and online. At the time of posting, it’s been 1 year and 4 months since I’ve quit my corporate job to be a full time creator! I also have a new YT VIDEO UP on how I really feel about my finances as a 28 y/o living in Singapore so feel free to check it out on my channel (link in bio) where I discuss some anxieties / fears surrounding the topic of money. Yeah - always a work in progress!

I like to joke and say creators work from anywhere but fr tho most of the time these days are spent at home šŸ  (I’ve also become such a homebody!!!!) In my shared home- office with the husband - we legit fight for space and coming into this new apartment - we def needed something that would support the both of us!! Hence why we upgraded from… dining chairs šŸŖ‘ to the latest @hinomi_official H2 PROOOO This baddie had over 19 adjustment points which molded wonderfully to my and the husband’s comfort and posture!! Y’all can try it for yourself - I’ve linked my affiliate link to purchase on my stories and my name - Mathilda gives you $20 off your purchase! 🩷 #wheretobuy #ergonomicchairs #hinomi #hinomih2pro

I disappeared from the city for 48 hours and I was transported to tranquility and an escape by the marina @wsingapore ā‹†Ėšź©œļ½” My highlights šŸ«¶šŸ» ✨ hiding out at the away spa - the way I melted into my naps in the vitality pool.. it was divine. The husband even shared that there was a secret refuel room where they hid the snacks. ✨our scrumptious spread of steaks and the best cabbage by the marina served up @skirt.sg ✨after hours by @hyenahmusic what a goooood afro house night out fr šŸ¤ the best drops were euphoric. ✨ actually this whole weekend felt like a dream… and I can’t wait to be back šŸ’“ #WSingapore #WHotels #WOOBAR #AFTERDARK #SKIRT

It’s episode 12 of finding inexpensive / free activities to do in Singapore šŸ‡øšŸ‡¬ (defence edition!!) A walk in the park in Singapore, could rly be that deep… in this episode, we had the absolute pleasure of War Historian, and Co-Founder of Total Heritage - Dr John Kwok @drjkwok to take us on a forest walk filled with so many untold stories! šŸ¤” We also had lore regarding the strategic position of the ridge but y’all watch the video can find out why šŸ‘€šŸ‘€ This collaboration also sparked because Dr John and I connected @siforg ā€˜S Voices of Us where a group of creators, volunteers and collaborators came together to discuss our nation’s multiculturalism and our National identity. A few things from that day stuck with me: firstly, how history is about facts, but also greatly the importance of the historian’s order and context in which the facts are presented, it made me think of all the different narratives that we as Singaporeans have of our own culture. Next, if we start to forget our cultures by not practicing them, it may lead to an erasure of the fabric of our nation. The team behind @hiddenheritage.sg tours in Singapore shared a few photos with the crowd depicting a few Orang Laut dishes, which we don’t see as often anymore. This made me ponder deeply, what would I want to keep with me / share with the generations to come? Lastly, one of the volunteers deeply impacted me. Sundram shared a line that said ā€œAspire, to inspire before you expireā€. It seriously made me re-consider the impact and the work I’m’ doing online, to go back to the core of why i started social media - to tell stories, and to give voices to the people who feel unseen in society. A huge point of curiosity for me, after the event was also about our rich history, that is often overshadowed by new buildings, and the somewhat erasure of the old artifacts. Lmk what yall think and where / what other sites we should explore next! #whattodo #singapore #freeactivities
