Are we nearly there yet? By Mathias Eis @mathias.eis This project explores life and landscape through his realistic photography at Danish rest areas. But these paved oases also have a life of their own, although hardly anyone stays more than 10 minutes. Although most people have been to a rest area, few people attach any special value to these places. It is the small surprising moments that are throughout the project. As such, the project provides an authentic insight into the lives of Danes, as seen through the stories that take place at rest stops. The intention is that the viewer can mirror themselves in the moments depicted in the project. At the same time, the goal is to create a nuanced contemporary image of Denmark and the people who are either at work, travelling through the country, or just stopping at a rest area as a break from everyday life. . Mathias Eis @mathias.eis Born in 1995, he is a documentary photographer and visual storyteller, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, who specializes in long-term real-life projects that explore people’s ways of living through portraiture, reportage and landscape photography. He graduated with an BA in Photojournalism from the Danish School of Media and Journalism in 2023. He also attended the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, where he studied Fine Art Photography from 2018-2019. He is particularly interested in communities and subcultures that provide a unique insight. He works as a freelancer focusing on portraiture combined with long-form commissioned assignments for various international and national media. . #ArttacaSpotlight is our weekly feature where we share works of three artists per week on our social media channels. #ArttacaSpotlight #Arttaca #AreWeNearlyThereYet? #MathiasEis

Skellefteå in northern Sweden was the forgotten "Golden City", until Northvolt revealed their gigafactory. It is the largest European-owned battery factory currently planned. From the 1950s and through the 1980s, the city grew based on mining industry. The growth suddenly stopped, and the young people moved away from the municipality in large numbers. But things has changed since Northvolt arrived. Skellefteå Municipality expects the city will have 90,0000 inhabitants in 2030 and 100,000 in 2040. Shot for @berlingske #skellefteå

Words: @fruwulff Editor: @miebrinkmann
