Good things take time, and this has been a long time in the making, 18 months to be exact!
At the start of 2021, we collectively agreed that we had outgrown our current branding - it didn’t truly reflect who we were as a company or as people. It has been a journey worth taking, and we are so proud to release the newly minted and life-giving brand of Material Creative to the world. This is us!
Every good journey is a journey taken together. We couldn’t have done this without the supreme talent of our favourite graphic designer Hannah at @hannah_design_studio , incredible web developers Ella and Paul at @madestudionz , phenomenal wordsmith Georgia at @studioyumi_ and the forever effervescent and supportive marketing guru Catie at @somewhere_creative .
Lastly - to our team: We have had some remarkable designers and technicians come and go over the years and would love to acknowledge all of those who have contributed to the work we have produced and helped Material Creative become the studio we are today. To our current team of wondrous humans, thank you for all you do and create. Here’s to a fresh, new us!

Marigold have done it again, using our bespoke sofa in a shoot that explores the beauty of pattern on pattern.
A celebration of decorative freedom, this custom designed piece is upholstered in a bold, globally inspired fabric that nods to the layered aesthetics we’re drawn to when travelling. Maximalist in spirit, it rejects restraint and embraces richness, colour, texture.

Material Creative was born with a vision: to be New Zealand's most interesting interior design studio. Not the biggest, not the most conventional, but the most daring, innovative and interesting.
Over the years, we've weathered storms like the GFC, a pandemic, and a recession. And guess what? We're still here, creating, evolving, and growing. We've designed hundreds of spaces across Aotearoa, influenced the way people think about interiors, and helped shape a more daring design landscape.
We've been lucky enough to mentor young designers, lead with passion, and never stop learning.
This new portrait feels like us.
Clear on who we are, grounded in our purpose, and confident in our unique, boundary-pushing style. We're still evolving, always curious, and ready to keep colouring outside the lines.
