This Saturday I'll be at my second home @juicehull as part of Hull Open Studios. If you're in the area come and say hi and see me working on some type.
Spreads from my editorial piece 'The Evolution of Artificial Intelligence'. All images created using AI. Part of @hamish_muir 's online course on type and design systems.
‘The Evolution of Artificial Intelligence’
An editorial piece consisting of front and rear covers and four spreads to show a proposal for a publication on the evolution of AI. A brief set by @hamish_muir as part of his online course in Typographic and System Design.
The text was created with AI, supplied by Hamish and laid out by me. Using Midjourney I created a series of art-directed images which respond to the themes: The Tuning Test; AI and Typographic Design: Large Language Models and AI and the Environment.
This was my first time using AI in the context of design. It’s not for everyone and I get why it’s frowned upon. It’s not easy, it’s not cheap and you have to create a huge volume of images in the process of refining prompts, hopefully creating something unique. In this case its allowed me to work as both designer, editor and art director and I doubt I would get anywhere near these results without it.
From sketch to framed in one week. Recreated a vintage poster for Vertigo records as a birthday present for my mum. No idea when the og poster was from, probably late 60s. Screen printed by me with some help from the don @josephjcox at @juicehull and I have to shout Robin @flat_fox for the insane service of printing and posting the acetate from Cornwall to Hull in under 24hrs.
Posters to announce a season of installations by Ryoji Ikeda.
Inspired by quote by Ikeda, I developed a generative system that uses randomness to shift position of the coloured blocks based on user input.
Made under guidance of the mighty @hamish_muir
