What an incredible tasting this morning at Palais Niederösterreich in Vienna as part of VieVinum.
Titled ‘Terrior Talks’ with 22 flights of wine able to be tasted which are ordered from an amazingly slick team of sommeliers who bring the wines to you. With so many wines on offer we decided to stick to some of the classic varieties, starting with a focus on top single vineyards and then broadening out right across Austria. It was a fascinating lesson in vintage variation, regionality and winemaking impact on style.
Thanks to Austrian wine for such a superb event, and to all of the wineries who provided the wines.

We are delighted to announce that applications are now open for our 2026 Barca-Velha Golden Vines® MW Scholarships.
⭐🍷 Two scholars will receive a total of £35,000 in funding to be divided across MW-related costs and an individual internship programme, through which the scholars will have the opportunity to visit some of the world's greatest fine wine and rare spirits estates.
⭐🍷 Very excitingly, the scholars will also be invited to undertake a unique SOGRAPE experience, during which they will visit SOGRAPE’s wineries and vineyards, in Portugal, to learn in-person from their world-leading team and globally-renowned estates.
⭐🍷 The scholars will also be assigned a mentor from the judging panel, who will guide them through their MW studies and to whom they may turn for advice and questions.

Wine Australia’s Emerging Talent Bursary is sending 10 people aged 35 and under to the IMW International Symposium 2027 in Adelaide – the marquee event of the global wine calendar. 500 people from the top of the wine world, four days of world-class tastings, provocative presentations, and the kind of conversations that actually change how you think about wine.
The bursary covers your costs. All it takes is four short answers.

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) International Symposium is regarded as the marquee event in the global wine calendar. Launched in Oxford in 1982 and last hosted in Wiesbaden, Germany in 2023, the 11th International Symposium will see the event travel to Adelaide, South Australia. The host of the 2027 event is the South Australian Government with support from Wine Australia.
The event is organised by the Institute of Masters of Wine. The IMW’s mission is to foster excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community. As well as running the MW study programme, the IMW programme of worldwide events offers unparalleled opportunities to taste and learn.
These tastings and seminars, including the international symposium, are open for anyone to attend – you don’t have to be a Master of Wine to join in.
