Old footage. New residency. Same vibes.
Admittedly I’m a terrible self-promoter…more a lover of sharing my community good news: this week I celebrated my students past and present as their gutsy efforts yielded future goated results. Their wins include: first art residency and public art project; admission to a cinema studies grad program with a full ride; presenting a first solo show; offer letter for a tenure track assistant professorship; and an internship at a legendary museum.
@ezrom_williams has had more screenings in the past month than I can remember. My girls are thriving.
That said: I’m excited to be in the 2026 cohort at both @lmcc_nyc Arts at Governors Island and the @globalleadersinstitute Executive MBA.
And thank everyone for the birthday blessings, gifts and surprises! I know it was 2 weeks ago, but I’ll send thank yous next week 🫣
Yesterday we celebrated Valentine’s Day by inviting families to join us for an afternoon of creativity, storytelling, and connection 💐✨
From building Lego bouquets to sharing laughs and community, the room was full of love.

Using the trees on Governors Island as both metaphor and subject, Williams reflects on how survival, coexistence, and rebirth parallel natural ecosystems. Trees serve as symbols of resilience—physically strong yet socially interconnected, with deep-rooted networks that sustain both themselves and their surroundings. Williams’ performances reveal how human societies mirror these ecosystems, addressing the history of trees on Governors Island and their significance, from colonization to environmental changes, and bringing forth their collective survival and rebirth. Her reflections on birth, transformation, and the chaos required to rearrange life’s components bring an organic and cyclical perspective that mirrors processes found in nature. Her collaborations with other artists in her performances underscore the importance of community in artistic practice and reflect the cyclical nature of influence and inspiration that guides her work.

This week @nagobredrin joined @masterofdivinity to teach an immersive @itp_nyu session in #LittleCaribbean #Brooklyn on Food as Resistance in the Caribbean!
✊🏿We chatted about #Haitian pate and #Jamaican patties being colonial talk back, #Rastafari #ital being a dietary commitment to eradicating oppression, and pigs being used by Spanish and Roman empires against Caribbean Muslims and Jews.
🎥 Oh and to finish the sentence in the first video: jerk pork and later chicken was cooked underground with herbal, medicinal seasonings by #maroons in Jamaica so that these free communities wouldn’t be smelled out by the British jerks.
