This week at MBV, we continued advocating strongly on behalf of members across a number of key policy and industry issues, including continued advocacy around MFR, engagement on the proposed State Flood Planning Provisions, and ongoing discussions regarding short-term response measures. We also saw a major highlight in MBV's longstanding advocacy - the Federal Government's announcement that mandatory Australian Standards will become freely accessible. The Federal Budget handed down last night includes several decisions impacting the building and construction industry. While it focuses on productivity, approvals reform, fuel security, business investment, and workforce settings, MBV is disappointed that more measures were not introduced to stimulate housing and support builders. MBV is also concerned about trust tax changes, CGT reform, and negative gearing restrictions impacting investment. The Government’s own budget papers acknowledge that changes to key tax arrangements affecting housing delivery are expected to reduce supply by around 35,000 homes. Here is a summary of everything you need to know. We ask all our MBV members to refer to the detailed update sent via e-mail for a more in-depth review and important links.
