Celebrated annually on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday, International Nurses Day recognises the dedication, skill and knowledge of nurses around the world.
Today, WorkSafe thanks the nurses across Victoria for the vital role they play in our communities, and for the care and support they provide every day.
Like all workers, nurses deserve to be safe at work. WorkSafe supports ongoing efforts to help create safer and healthier workplaces across the healthcare sector.

Yesterday, on International Workers’ Memorial Day, Victorian Trades Hall Council hosted a powerful memorial service to remember the workers who have lost their lives due to workplace injuries or illnesses.
The service included a work boot laying ceremony, with each pair of boots laid in memory of a Victorian worker who lost their life in the past 12 months. This was followed by a minute’s silence and the laying of wreaths.
We honour those workers by standing united in our commitment to reducing workplace harm and preventing future tragedies, because every worker has the fundamental right to return home safe.
Today marks International Workers' Memorial Day and World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
It is a time to pause and remember the workers who have lost their lives due to a work-related injury or illness, and to acknowledge the lasting impact these tragedies have on families, friends and communities.
It is also a day to reaffirm our shared responsibility to reduce workplace harm and continue working towards safer, healthier workplaces across Victoria.
Every worker has the fundamental right to return home safe.
