Join us for an evening of artist talks by the fifth cohort of BCN artists in residence; Abraham Babajide Cole, Sylwia Ciszewska-Peciak, Sonia Levesque, Bag Lord, Rumbidzai Savanhu.
Produced in partnership between Multistory and The Wolverhampton School of Art as part of Multistory’s artist development programme, the residency supports five emerging Black Country based artists each year with time, space, funding and critical mentorship. The artists’ presence activates the building as a site of exchange between students and the professional art world; opening access to the school's specialist facilities to the wider arts community, while contributing to a multidisciplinary culture of shared learning.
Rather than presenting work in its final state, the exhibition shares work in progress, reflecting the programme’s commitment to supporting practice as research, and providing space for artistic experimentation and play.

🦋 Metamorphosis 🦋
Throughout the project I have been interested in the idea of metamorphosis and capturing the moment of change. I was interested in how this focussing is usually on the before and after, on beauty that comes after the transformation, the caterpillar to butterfly. I wanted to explore the middle, the during, the chrysalis. The pain that the caterpillar must go through to become the butterfly and how one is undone so that they can be remade and become something else. How the undoing is an important, essential and ongoing part of the journey.

I got to take part in the @printandmatter Art School where we learned from so many amazing creatives, I got to experiment with new ways of making art and print making, and get back to my love of animation. I'm so grateful to have been chosen for the 2025 cohort and for all the new connections and friends I have made!

🌟🌟🌟 2025 pockets of joy 🌟🌟🌟
I started the year stuck in bed unable to leave the house, to cook, draw, swim and it was the first time I wasn't able to go on my annual new year's eve hike. I was healing and MISERABLE! I'm super thankful to my loved ones for supporting me physically and emotionally and bring moments of light into my days
I'm surprised to see just how I've done! I finished a soul draining job, I saw and made new art, I was a bridesmaid for my bestie's wedding, I illustrated a book, I saw loads of live music (Diana Ross sang my favourite song and I cried, I saw 3 members of SHINee, and had the time of my life at the Beyonce's concert) and of course dancing!
This year I'm gonna have so much fun and pour love into myself and all the people who have cared for me 🧡🧡🧡
I've loved every piece that I've made this year! ✨
I've been working on making more art just for myself this year and it's been so freeing to explore different mediums like animation and ceramics and doing more children's books and comics
In 2026 I'll be spending even more time creating my own projects and even sharing some exciting sculptural work and new comics!

✨One Year Later✨
I'm feeling super grateful today to all the people who have supported me this last year! I couldn't have done it without all the people who cooked for me, dropped off food, helped me up and down the stairs, watched Judge Judy with me and kept me company. I feel freer and more like myself than ever.
I'm living a dream come true
(Also thank you to the really sweet person who cheered me on and gave me a lollipop when I was taking photos outside of Claire's 😅)
