It’s the first Monday of the month and you know what that means. We’re so thrilled to showcase OUT OF THE GREY by Marta Baidek as part of our SHORT OF THE MONTH curatorial collection. OUT OF THE GREY | SHORT OF THE MONTH - June ‘25: Laura, a pregnant environmental refugee, is forced to leave her haven in the hope of finding medical support and safety for her unborn baby. The film touches on present-day issues such as the cost of living, global warming, and the refugee crisis in an inhospitable world. WATCH NOW: link in bio. A beautiful exploration on the meaning of home, motherhood, identity, and survival in a dystopian crisis. Marta Baidek not only manages to develop these themes, but also crafts a dense and fully self-sustainable story within the short film format: which is a very difficult task. The sci-fi genre is particularly challenging to work in when making a short film and it’s quite rare that a short sci-fi project not only looks incredible and evokes emotion in the viewer, but also expands on tropes in the genre.
