Been a while since I posted! I've been feeling restless lately, so I figured it was time for a new creative project. I reached out to a few people at McMaster University and the boxing club let me come by and take some photos during practise.
Over the last few years, I've been interested more and more into how people live their lives. From what they do for work, where they live, their hobbies, how they structure their lives, etc. It's easy to get stuck in a rut when you don't realize there are other choices.
I was reminded of that while hanging out with the great people at the boxing club. After my SD card filled up, I was able to join the next class and practise alongside everybody. Over that time, not only did I have a blast, but I also got to talk to everybody and dive deeper into their lives. Listening to their fears, worries, excitement, stress, and goals. A lot of the things that I used to feel when I was in their place 10 years ago. Some things I still feel even now.
I got to drop some unsolicited pieces of advice (I couldn't help myself), and also received a great one in return. Taking the time to connect with others and have fun doesn't take away from the important work you're doing, but actually makes it easier to work through.

I did really enjoy the heavily motion blurred images. I never really leaned into this style but I am a big fan of abstract work. I think it's interesting when the method of your creative process is visible in the finished piece and it adds it's own elements and meaning.

When I arrived in Toronto I had no plans to become a portrait photographer. I’d just stopped working on my startup and was in a bit of a funk. So I did what any sane, rational creative type would do… offer free portraits to strangers on the internet.
To be completely honest, in the beginning I was a little worried about who would show up at my apartment. But these concerns quickly melted away because the people I met have turned out to be the kindest bunch.
What quickly became apparent while shooting these portraits was just how diverse the Toronto population is. So the random request for portrait subjects morphed into an ongoing series shining a light on the people who call Toronto home.
Quite literally.
