On this week’s @workingdrummerpodcast , @matthewcrouse and I unpack the story that rocked the financial world this week when hedge fund Engine No. 1 achieved a stunning victory by scoring two seats on Exxon Mobil’s corporate boaJUST KIDDING ITS ABOUT DRUMS. Link in bio.

Real solid night at the @americanafest Pre-Grammy Salute to Shakey himself, Mr. Neil Young at @thetroubadour . @maqpics ran the show, @danielrhine ran the band, @blondeambitiontour ran the photo department, and the stage was crawling with Grade A Sickos. Still buzzing at the gym two days later.
My dad, Bill Stepro, turns eighty tomorrow. He taught World History and Senior Government for over 50 years at our local high school. I do what I do because he did what he did. I am who I am because he was who he was. Who he is. I parent my son the way that I do because of the way that he parented me. Thinking about a continuum like that is really heavy, which is why I try not to think about it all that much. But it’s important, and days like today remind me of the need to always be in conversation with that continuum; to periodically grapple with it. The good things that I have inside of me are because of him. The bad things too. It’s all one giant Springsteen song. Being a son and a father are tough sometimes.
One of the best experiences of my life was spending a semester of senior year in his Government class. 80% of the class were kids who had grown up in and around my house. It was super heavy when I went away to college and he lost his shit for a minute, the only time I ever saw that. I’ll probably do that with my son too. I probably took years off of his life when I wrecked my truck out near Bucyrus (I didn’t much care for the experience either).
If you know him, I don’t need to tell you who he is. If you don’t know him, believe me when I say that your life would be better if you did. Hit him up and tell him happy birthday if you get a chance.
