Not a Reel for the algorithm but just because going to @outlawtriathlon events always reminds me Triathlon still has local roots and is full of fun events you just need to say yes to. To the guy that asked me to post it, hope you had a great race! @markfan1986 flying out the swim, the legend @bottrillmatthew doing his thing on the bike (looks absolutely clapped on the finish line run 😂) and some absolute nobody rounding out the run!

270 Episodes from @protrinews . Not everyone likes everything, it’s not always smooth but the reality is it’s a hobby between mates we really enjoy and are passionate about. Thank you to everyone who listens, shares their opinions and says hello at events 🙏🙏

Always listen to your parents. I’d said to my Dad that Kat would decide if she carried on or not. I then heard about the repair job from the mechanic which worried me safety wise. I’m not complaining about his work, it’s what I’d do to get home, just not to have Kat ride full tilt on for 90km. By the time I told her to stop the dollar had worn through. She still had 60km to go or something and there is zero doubt in my mind she’d have had a second blow out long before T2. Annoyingly it became painfully clear that the course wasn’t swept for a large parts of the northbound section with Kat and many others saying they rode past nails, bolts, a pair of pliers and even lengths of chain etc. On top of that the neutral support finally needs some work, it’s a conversation I’ve had so many times, I’m really hoping this prompts @ironmantri to sort it out (just a simple document that lays out what is required to be on the motos and SAG car, I’ll happily write it for you and get it peer reviewed). Would be nice not to have to go on another podcast crusade over something so simple 🙏🙏🙏 The last photo is @patrick_lemieux , he’s younger than me and this still upsets me.

For some reason my algorithm is showing me videos of coaches rambling on about Brick Sessions at the moment. I thought we left that back in 2010. Why they might be good: You haven’t done a triathlon or need it for confidence. You’re time crunched and it’s the only way to fit it in Why they should be avoided: 1) The run is automatically compromised, you start it fatigued and under fuelled meaning any adaptions are reduced. The quality of the actual run is also reduced for the same reasons and the chance of injury increases alongside that (maybe) 2) You cant do a bike session to full capacity prior as you “still have to run” 3) Most age groupers spend 10min in T2 anyway. Every time you do a brick session you use up a chance you have to improve your running…🤷‍♂️ Go on the, come at me 😂

Sooo we approach my first race as “coach”. Honestly something I said I’d never do for ‘the wife’. I found it hard to see how you could balance coaching and caring for someone the way you should as a husband. It wasn’t a deliberate thing, Kat just chose to take a break from external coaching to have a bit reset and space. That said it’s been super fun. In part because you don’t want to be too perfect or fit right now, with the big goals in July and October. It’s also been great to have people like @bottrillmatthew @samproctortri @bjoegee to bounce ideas off if needed. One thing I hate with a passion is Pro coaches that profess to be an expert in all areas, physiological/aero/fit/motivation etc. Recognise what you are an expert in and outsource the rest, something we will do after this race. For now we are going back to basics and leaning into the fact that between us we know enough about everything to crank out a performance worthy of this time of year. It’s a fun way to do things as everything is a bit lower stress, but it probably can’t get 100% out of an athlete. *if Saturday is a disaster I reserve the right to delete this and deny all responsibility. But it won’t be 😏. @matt_hnatiw 📸 🙏

If anyone ever says “fancy going to the cyclocross in the Netherlands and staying in Belgium for the weekend” say YES. Yea that’s my Dad wandering around listening to Techno, eating fries bellow a Giant Windmill, you know, what everyone does every day in Holland. And MVDP even looks cool warming up.

Episode 125 is live, and this one was built for the group chat. We brought @markmatt29 on @anothertriathlonpodcast with @jennacaer @joshmvernon & @fedemultisport to catch up, talk racing, and then we went all in on Triathlon Bingo. Real predictions and some that feel uncomfortably accurate. Especially around the bad faith arguments on both sides and why 20m is not some miracle cure that fixes everything. This one is opinionated, self aware, and very much not trying to sit on the fence. Highlights • Mark Matthews on getting back into racing and lining up for 70.3 New Zealand • Why the pro season starting earlier is both smart and brutal • Triathlon Bingo explained, our free square and why “most stacked field ever” is inevitable • Will Jelle Geens three peat at 70.3 Worlds, or does long course change everything • Hayden Wilde skipping 70.3 Worlds on purpose, stubbornness or strategy • T100 race locations, will they finally stay put • Ironman draft zones, bad faith arguments, real data, and why 20m isn’t a magic fix • Alex Yee marathon vs triathlon, temptation, timing, and Olympic reality • Texas winners and Kona winners, myth or outdated logic • Lionel Sanders and inevitable training philosophy shifts • Sub eight Ironman, when, where, and who actually does it • Matt Hauser, WTCS dominance, and the short course hierarchy • Why Hayden Wilde is still untouchable at T100 • Kat Matthews and a potential pro series three peat • Norwegian podium sweeps, are we done or just getting started If you want an episode that feels like the sport, loud opinions, inside jokes, and a few lines that will absolutely make people mad, this is it. Listen now, and tell us what belongs on the 2026 Triathlon Bingo card. Follow and save this one if you want more episodes like this. #triathlonpodcast #triathlonnews #ironmantriathlon #t100triathlon #protriathlon

No sympathy for @markmatt29 on the podcast this week. After his wife @katr_matthews wins the @ironmantri pro series for the Second year in a row and a check for $200k

That’s a wrap on my season…😂. A bit cringe but one of the highlights of the last few years for me is having got to know @crowiealexander He’s a real gent, has the energy of a teenager, even nursing his way round 8km as we both tried not to vomit up last night. @kevinsawyer behind the 📸 🙏

Whilst celebrating some great achievements in a women’s race at the awards, a different battle was underway. A table of Norwegians/Americans and a valiant solo New Zealand effort took on an UK/German team. There was only ever going to be one winner.
