When I ask Mark Feng what furniture symbolized for Chinese families moving out of collectivist dormitories into modern apartments in the 1990s, his answer is self expression. Growing up in China in the 80’s, everyone had the same furniture, cutlery and clothes. When Mark’s father founded China’s first high end furniture brand in 1990 people mistook the upscale store for a hotel and walked in with suitcases ready to check in. @marklufeng now helms Markor—China’s iconic home-furnishings empire often called the “RH of China”—with a footprint that stretches across the globe.
