Had a great time at the Borrego contest in Borrego Springs California this weekend. Thanks to all the organizers and all the hard work that went into putting the contest on-another great contest as always. I recently had the opportunity to work with @hamiltonwatch to create a very cool campaign where I was the ā€œAirā€ portion of the film. I spent 3 days with the most amazing crew and a killer helicopter pilot (@mike11klein from @49northhelicopters ) chasing me around in very close quarters. It was a first for me to get caught in rotor wash while flying in formation! We shot this over on the west side of Vancouver Island hitting the best mountains and beaches we could find. The final product turned out amazing. You can also see more shots on the Hamilton Watch landing page. Directors Note: Filmed across three countries with three incredible crews, this project was truly a labor of love. It took a massive team effort to bring it to life, and I’m beyond grateful to everyone who went above and beyond to make it happen! Borrego Springs Akrofest 2024 is done and dusted. That’s a wrap for 2024 with 3 unlimited contests. I had a blast with my wingman AJ (who flew like a beast!) and support crew Mark King. We lived like kings in a baller pad, pounded some ribs and flew hard. I can’t tell you how encouraging it is to have these guys in my corner. Endless encouragement before each flight like: ā€hey cupcake, don’t f$ck this up!ā€ or ā€œif you finish with anything lower than 2nd place you are not welcome back to the Santa Paula Airport.ā€ or ā€œdon’t f$ck up and hit the ground!ā€ I mean it’s inspiring really! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ The team from IAC 36 did an awesome job organizing the event and thanks to The Propeller Bar and Grill for the food and drink. I am looking forward to next year!

This airplane makes me want to be a better man! Last weekend was my first Unlimited aerobatic competition. It was a known, double unknown format and oddly I scored better in my unknowns than I did in the known sequence. I made a few mistakes, I did some things well, progress was made. Incrementally, I became a slightly better man.

So this happened today! A 1948 de Havilland Chipmunk. It was used as a post war primary trainer to replace the Tiger Moth. This was the 113th built out of only 217 ever made in Canada, with only 24 of those are still registered in Canada. The original Gipsy Major engine was swapped out for a Lycoming O-320 and it’s running a fixed pitched 2-blade prop. The hand brake on the left and the flap handle on the right requires some hand jiving that makes it super fun to fly. Thanks @cmhbaxter for allowing me to experience this little piece of history and add another type to my log book! Airplanes are cool.
