❄️ A very Merry Christmas from all at C20!
The festive illustration by @markalexlong is of the former National Centre for Popular Music in Sheffield (Branson Coates, 1999), latterly the Student Union for Sheffield Hallam University.
It was the flagship case on our 2025 Risk List and ‘Reuse Them or Lose Them’ billboard campaign, after the University decided to relocate the Union and initially refused to rule out demolition, leaving the beloved ‘kettles’ building sitting empty and under threat. However the year ends on a more positive note, following its recent addition to the South Yorkshire Local Heritage List.
Can Santa now deliver a new use and a third act for this Steel City icon? We ho-ho-hope for good news in 2026.
