Return to Arrowhead 135
1st place in 35 hrs 48min
Average race temperature -4° (feels like of -22)
Crossing the finish line was not how I expected it to be. I’ve never had a victory feel so defeating. But that’s what this course does to you.
Throughout the race, I kept reminding myself that I had more to give. It was a game between giving more effort when the comfortable choice sounded better. Winning was a choice to give everything that I had.
I did that. That broken feeling at the finish line was the result of a war of attrition. Between the weakest parts of me, and the man I aim to be.

To the race director Ken, thank you for the opportunity to experience what only those who face Arrowhead will understand.
Massive thanks to @caleboutside and his dad for their dedication to filming this race. This one’s going to be an epic story to tell.
Most importantly, thank you to my wife Lucy for all her continued support. Every message I received gave me the strength to continue moving forward no matter how I felt. I’m a blessed man because of you.
Thank you to all of you for supporting me in this journey. It truly means a lot✌🏻

Pain Management
At my first 50 miler, I thought “how does anyone get through this??”
The pain was overwhelming. But I refused to quit.
Now I see that pain as not the end point, but the beginning of the next breakthrough.
You may find that deep pain at your next half marathon or 50k. I’ve been there. I know how you feel. But I have the perspective of continuing on year after year for 7+.
You will find your strength by continuing to move forward.
Then you get the enjoyment of watching yourself go mad in real time.
Keep going
Find people that will push themselves to their limits in training.
Those are the people that you want to be surrounded by.
Today was 400’s up to a mile. Then reversing it back down.
45 minutes of hard work.
Understand Your Foundation
Not just what you’re chasing after. But why.
Because with enough time, commitment, and persistence, you CAN create the life you’re after.
Just make sure it won’t leave you empty.
My foundation is my faith.
What’s yours?
Reps reps reps
My mission is to help you discover what you’re truly capable of.
I first must demonstrate that through my actions. When it’s most difficult, I must make the hard choice to keep going. It’s not about what I say I’ll do, it’s what I’ve proven I’ve done. Then continue to do it.
Over the last 2 years, I’ve been going to schools, teams, and corporations to share what I’ve learned. If you would like me to come share this message with your team, then send me a dm and we can set it up.
The ripple affects everyone. So let’s create a tsunami.
I love big training efforts on sore legs from lifting.
It builds confidence because I now have a sense of what hour 30 will feel like.
And I keep going
I accept all criticism that comes with this post.
Frankly, I don’t care if @cameronrhanes runs a 2:39 marathon or a 4 hour. I don’t listen to him for the purposes of seeking training tips, what to eat, what party to vote for etc. The reason I listen is because behind all sh*t talking is guy who lifts people up for their athletic efforts AND who they are as people.
I don’t know Cam personally. I don’t know the haters calling for his demise either. But one thing I do know is that Cam has seemingly never let a difference of opinion, political belief, training style, religious affiliation, etc to stop him from finding the person behind all of it to connect with.
You can take all the other stuff away. But you can’t take the true impact of why so many in the “running community” value his presence and imprint.
There’s a type of fear I now recognize as an opportunity for growth.
I’m not ready for a successful day at midstate mile as it stands today. But that means I get 5 weeks to become the person that will be.
