1934 Alpenfahrt revival tour, day 9 from Venezia to Zagreb, arrival at the Esplanade Hotel, which was the rally HQ hotel in 1934. Competitors on that rally arrived here after five days of driving; it took us nine days, including one rest day.

A few more images of day #1 of the Alpenfahrt on the Route des Grandes Alpes in France. We left Nice at 8 am and arrived in Briançon at 6 pm, a full day of driving. Now imagine that on the first day of the Alpenfahrt in 1934, the competitors were only about two-thirds of the way on what was day #1. Of course they didn’t stop to take photos, eat lunch, and change spark plugs and adjust carburators.
