For our March issue, we went to the place where film classics such as Metropolis, The Pianist, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Hunger Games and maaany others were made: the Babelsberg Film Studios, a seemingly unremarkable industrial area 40 minutes outside of Berlin. Here, we shot the fabulous @hannahherzsprung@lorna_ishema@numanoffice@bennyoarthur and #IrisBerben and talked about the ups and downs of German film with them. A few weeks later, I sat down with Hannah again for 4.5 hours over a breakfast turned lunch on a very snowy Friday and discussed everything from her meticulous role preparation to why she sometimes sits in cafes wearing headphones without listening to anything, and what drives her (“I don’t do this job to shine!”) for our cover story. In context of our celebration of German film, I was also lucky enough to get to know the gift that is @lisychristl29a , Oscar nominated costume designer who creates whole books and worlds for her characters. Moreover, @notstrongonlyaggressive investigated if successful German film can be more than Bully Herbig, WW2 or the 100th spin-off of “Der Vorname” (Spoiler: It can!) and @lenaelster__ found out what creatively running an independent cinema can look like today. Never got to post this, but for the latest issue of @polyton.de magazine, I got the chance to muse about (pop) music’s current obsession with ‘90s rave culture (both look and sound wise), happy hardcore, Mark Fisher and much more. Is this just another style quote, or are we all longing for the freedom of early techno days and lacking optimism for the future? These are excerpts, but you can now also read the full piece on polyton.de. Cutest illustrations by @michelebry , magazine design by the fab @studio_yukiko , idea & generally alles by love @balbina_nanana - thanks for having me! 🎀🎀🎀
Preparing this made me inseparable from my laptop for quite some time (even in the most stunning locations), so especially happy it’s here! 2 weeks ago our July/August issue dropped and it is fully dedicated to Schland and its style. I spoke to @shirindavid and @rachaelrodgers about the evolution of the former’s style, to the remarkable @christiana_bukalo and her super important work with @statefree.world , I met the soon-to-be-superstar @ameliehoeferle in Cannes and Munich within 5 days (and shot her with @eileenjordan ), I had @mmmarckrause photograph some of the best places in Frankfurt (feeling very homesick now!) and spoke to the city’s new Tatort team. Also @shirinesione photographed the fabulous @tsellot and her parents in their Berlin home and @cash.miri spoke to them about their definition of Schlandiness, @valeriepraekelt reflected on the heritage of Bauhaus, @lucia.jost and @lenaelster__ explored the current European Cultural City of Chemnitz, @kathi.fuchsx spoke the the women’s national football team’s biggest stars, @philippwehsack explored grumpy German faces, @patrickpendiuk the best of German brands and of course @_kerstinweng took @billkaulitz to his home town together with @frederikehelwig and @nikipauls . AND SO MUCH MORE! Get your copy now. ❤️
2024 was my year of saying yes to things so when in November my friend @studiowilliamfan asked me to walk his show I said yes on a whim. Little did I know that I was going to share the runway with legends such as @brucedarnell@wolfgang_bahro or @kirsten_landwehr and would meet so many friends backstage. Thanks a million to William and your fabulous team for this super fun and special experience, thanks for bringing the legend that is #annabellebronstein to life and congrats on 10 years in this loco industry. To many more! (More about my experience on vogue.de) ♥️
