When I first started putting out dance records, a bunch of the first gigs I got were in Marseille. The wildest and most memorable nights were at @bricevafunkulo ’s club “Le Passe Temps”. Transformative, beautiful chaos…
My set last Friday night was a nod to the music I might have played back then. But I added a few from the new arsenal of music I’ve been creating. I’m still buzzing at the way my new stuff went down.

Today @deeeeweeee , the label from David and Stephen Dewaele AKA Soulwax/2manydjs, officially release @extra_credit_music ’s “Drive me”, the flip of our new AA-side release. Both tracks are digitally out today, with a vinyl edition to follow, available to pre-order.
Working with @joe_hot_chip and @justinstrauss1 as @extra_credit_music has been a blast. This tune came together fast after we had done “It’s Over”. We had got a weird rhythm going on one of Joe’s synths. I said it sounded like windscreen wipers on a car. Justin then came up with his ‘Drive Me’ lyric. Link in bio will take you there xx

I’ve had such a great time in Joe’s studio here in London working on this stuff and hopefully some of the fun we’ve had in the studio comes through in the music. It’s been a blast!

From 2007 to 2011 I worked on a tune that eventually I ended up naming “The Music”. I was depressed/despondent (to put it mildly) about my music in those years. But I liked working on this song so much it became a kind of “buoyancy device” for me. I’d work on it to keep the black dog at bay. I’d put it on and get so lost in it. A lot of what is in there now is just excerpts of me jamming away on keys/guitar/whatever. I used to imagine myself in a full band playing it live. I almost didn’t want to release the thing. Just wanted to keep it to myself and have it keep me sane and happy.
Anyway I got a nice surprise the other day. A full band playing it live. Shout out to bandleader @lorenzrhode for condensing my 8 minute epic down to 1 minute and to all the musicians of @rtoehrenfeld . You made my day!
