In Sun pairs the work of Kristan Kennedy and Marcus Fischer, two artists whose practices rely on accumulation, erosion, and perceptual uncertainty. Playing at the edges of two very different mediums, Kennedy with painting and Fischer primarily with sound, both eschew the notion of stable composition in favor of durational unfolding, which extends beyond the time of production to moments of active beholding.

Back in 2024 David and I had the opportunity to interpret Marc Fischer's beautiful graphic scores in performance at Oregon Contemporary. We landed on a "low/no subjectivity" interpretive approach involving a huge printout of the score, chalk, piezos, a brainwave-to-midi interface, Audiomulch, and David's EML synth, "Tobor." Bill and Chris from Critique of Everyday Life helped us craft this into a bigger recording project. So grateful to all involved. This is up for preorder on Bandcamp and Soundohm.

This past spring Summer and I had the honor and privilege to visit our friend @marcusfischer while he was doing his artist residency at @macdowell1907 . Summer and Marcus grew up together in Palos Verdes and spent their high school years exchanging notes and mix tapes and zines. On this visit, Summer and Marcus performed music and sound together for the very first time. It was a privilege to witness and capture this quiet, moving collaboration between these two lifelong friends. We had the privilege of filming and recording a live performance by @marcusfischer in the space that would later become Benson's wrap, assembly, and shipping warehouse. During the performance, Marcus played through a "stereo delay" he created using two Nagra reel-to-reel tape machines, processed through a Benson Bellringer and Benmaster. This live performance was a truly memorable moment and a highlight of producing the Benson documentary. Full video is on our YouTube channel now. (Link in Bio)
