For the ancestors & for us. I’ve released an open letter calling for integrity, transparency, and accountability in how one of the nation’s first statewide reparations studies is being governed. Reparations is sacred work. How we build our road to repair matters as much as the destination. If this resonates, please read & share. The record is now public. 🔗 Link in bio 📸: @bethaniehinesphotography @afronews @amistadbooks @harpercollins @spotlightprfirm #Reparations #EquityWithIntegrity #PublicAccountability #BlackHistory #MarcusAnthonyHunter

“Bags are ancient. Style is sacred. If clothes were the first thing Eve designed post-apple bite, then the bag that carried her and Adam’s stuff after their eviction from Eden was surely the first intentional accessory. That bag must have carried the weight of the world. Or maybe it carried the tools that would lead to redemption. Perhaps all our bags are carrying so much weight. Our bags are reminders of the universal truth that we are all carrying something with us. That life requires us to carry things is also an opportunity for expression. It is in this route of ancient and sacred, style and truth, humanity and expression, that the ingenious Sprayground has flourished, converting me into a member of its global consumer base.“ if you know or see me, I am likely accompanied by a Sprayground Limited Edition. It brings me great joy to celebrate & acknowledge this wonderful brand during its 15th Anniversary🙏🏾 Super grateful to James Ferrell for his commitment & kindness, Sandflower’s creative genius, brother Prophet for connecting us, & NewsOne for the provision of space to acknowledge, celebrate & share. link in bio for full piece. @sprayground @bma_coalition @veganbuddah180 @prophet5050 @laurabrown99 @charlylpalmer @drdavidjohns @melissahaizlip_ @maxalihunter @pr_whisperer @newsone_official #sprayground #sprayground15

Before there were textbooks, before there were departments, there were people watching people. On Night School with @marclamonthill , I talk about sociology as people science—and how Black communities, out of necessity and brilliance, became some of the world’s first people scientists. Reading rooms. Reading power. Reading danger. Reading possibility. This is ancestral knowledge with modern consequence. 🕯️📚✊🏾 @spotlightprfirm @unitedbyequity @nbjconthemove @asanews @ucla @howard1867 #PeopleScience #NightSchool #MarcLamontHill #BlackIntellectualHistory #BlackSociology #Sociology #AncestralWisdom #RadicalReparations #PublicScholarship

The debate around reparations is often wrapped in negatives. But healing can’t come without repair. And once there is repair a world of opportunity awaits. Excited for this conversation at Baldwin & Co. with author and scholar Dr. Marcus Anthony Hunter and activist Dr. David Johns! #reparations #healing #restorativejustice

You may notice a special graphic on my new book and its marketing materials. I'm so proud to share that it's not only because The Overseer Class is being published by @amistadbooks (the oldest Black imprint at any of the Big 5 publishing houses and the publisher of many of my literary heroes, such as Walter Mosley, James Weldon Johnson, Zora Neale Hurston, @marcusanthonyhunter and Alice Walker). It's also becase TOC is being published as a volume of Amistad's 40th year anniversary editions. "For forty years, Amistad Books has been devoted to honoring the legacy of Black literature, amplifying the bold and unapologetic voices of today’s storytellers, and paving the way for inspiring, Black-centered stories of the diaspora. Our authors illuminate, inspire, and imagine the past, present, and future of Blackness." What a bountry and a blessing to be part of a new decade of this literary tradition, and to have @amistadbooks @harpercollins as my home and people like @abbywestnyc and @alyssajoymiller guiding our ship on our journey. A blessing 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
