When the Orcas come in for a closer look. Orcas actually belong to the same family as dolphins and porpoises. That being said, they do definitely live up to their other name, Killer whales, as they feed on prey as diverse as manta rays, sharks, turtles, sea lions, and yes, even other dolphins. They are highly intelligent creatures with a complex family structure, led by a matriarch who teaches the calves different hunting techniques needed to attack different prey. These techniques have evolved so much that a pod of orcas can even work together to take down much larger animals like fully grown whales. There is no creature more apex than orcas in the water. And so I’m grateful that they see and treat us as a curiosity, often swimming in for a closer look, but we are thankfully not on their menu (no recorded case of attacks on humans in the wild). Seeing these highly social creatures in the wild, either in the water or from a boat, with the entire ocean as their playground is the only way you should see them. Not crammed into a tank or marine park, forced into a lifetime of performing for our entertainment. 😢 A lot of countries have banned orca and dolphin shows (mexico just passed a law recently 👏🏼), but there are still some who allow it. What an epic day of fun on the water down in Punta Fuego for the worldwide launch of the new @hoverair_global #HoverAirAqua. The very first fully waterproof flying camera! You are our rock, calm and steady, Full of love and understanding And as kids, with a voice so commanding. You’ve watched our triumphs and our sorrows, Always assuring us of better tomorrows. You’ve healed our wounds both physical and emotional, So of course we’re going to feel a little devotional. You’ve raised us to be the men and women we are, So the least we can do is try and reach your bar. One of goodness, empathy and joy, Perhaps that was always your ploy? Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been 20yrs since I sponsored my first @worldvisionphl children 😳, and about 17 years as an ambassador. (Swipe to hear about how it all started at a mall booth in 2006…). I have so much admiration for all that you do to not only educate children in need around the country (and the World), but also uplift and create livelihood projects for their communities. I love that the end goal has always been to make the community successful enough so that it doesn’t need our help anymore. :) Over the past 2 decades I have also seen first hand how quickly World Vision responds to disasters. Such a great few catch up days with our old buddy @bradturvey (who left showbiz here in Manila 18 years ago) and his lovely fiancée @roughleyhayley .
