RELEASE DAY! Edu Haubensak: SEQUOIA I – IV (2019–2024) for six concert grand pianos (1/12 tone scordatura) premiere and live recording September 22, 2024 Simone Keller - piano, Rafael Rütti - piano, Asia Ahmetjanova - piano, Stefan Kägi - piano, Yoko Sawa - piano, Stefan Wirth - piano SEQUOIA stands as a homage to Ivan Wyschnegradsky. In 1956, Wyschnegradsky composed "Arc-en-ciel" for six pianos tuned a twelfth tone apart, with the aim of rendering in sound the innumerable gradations of color within a rainbow. Edu Haubensak, who at the end of the work quotes his 1979 piano piece "Schwarz Weiss", thereby revealing the nucleus of Sequoia, thus brings several circles to a close. He not only connects his own past with the present, but also allows a monumental work to resound—one that is firmly rooted in the earth and reaches far into the heights, touching, with the tree tops, Wyschnegradsky’s rainbow. (Rudolf Amstutz) The idea of an oversized space that transcends the limits of our perception can only be represented as an illusion. Music can give us a glimpse of this illusion of a space of other dimensions, and when we stand before Sequoias, it becomes a little more real. The trees, which take up a lot of space with their cone-like structure, sloping branches, and conical trunks with brittle bark, are small wonders in their sheer size. They are the musical projection spaces and sources of inspiration for this composition. Ein jüdischer Ausnahmekünstler und ein iranischer Komponist, die gemeinsam zeigen, dass Kunst und Musik grenzüberschreitend sind, selbst wenn die Welt extrem polarisiert ist. In diesem ersten Take spürt man die Verantwortung. Es ist mehr als eine Musikproduktion…es ist ein künstlerisches Statement gegen den Krieg und für die Menschlichkeit. Die Helferei in Zürich. Ein Ort voller Geschichte für ein Album, das selbst Geschichte schreiben will. Während wir die CD Produktion für Giora Feidmans neues Album „For A Better World“ vorbereiten, ist die Welt draussen in Aufruhr. Giora ist fast 90, er hat persönliche Verluste erlebt und sieht seine Heimat im Krieg. Aber seine Antwort darauf ist kein Schweigen, sondern Klang. Als Tonmeister ist meine Aufgabe hier besonders: Ich schaffe die Brücke für eine Botschaft des Friedens. Es geht nicht nur um die perfekte Tontechnik, sondern darum, die „Seele der Klarinette“ in dieser historischen Akustik so einzufangen, dass man jedes Gebet und jede Hoffnung in seinem Spiel hört. Music production in the heart of Zurich’s oldtown “Niederdorf”. Christian Reformator Ulrich Zwingli used to live in this place and now @giorafeidman_thekingofklezmer chose this historic place to record his recent album “for a better world”. Compositions by @majidmontazer.official performed by @stringendozurich and pianist @vytissakuras . Other tracks were recorded @emilberlinerstudios by my dear colleague Stefan Flock. Nachdem uns Rey‘s Thema in die Einsamkeit geführt hat, wird im Scherzo für X-Wings unmissverständlich klar, dass der Widerstand zurückgekehrt ist. John Williams verdichtet den Klang am Schluss des dritten Satzes der Star Wars Suite „the force awakens“ mit rhythmischen Schlägen und fulminanten Läufen. Der Höhepunkt am Schluss gipfelt in einen harmonischen Schlussakkord. Kino für die Ohren. Mit Unterstützung der Star Wars Fangruppe Helvetica Base und der 501st Swiss Garrison führt das SSWO mit dem Dirigenten Niki Wüthrich die vier Sätze des epischen Werks von John Williams in einem Arrangement für sinfonisches Blasorchester von Paul Lavender auf.
