ندعوكم الي مشاركتنا في جولة [تمشية] تفاعلية من "خريطة ذاكرة غائبة" ، في ابو ظبي يوم الاحد، التجمع الساعة ٣:٠٠م 🗺️ We invite you to join us for an interactive walk/tour from @mappingabsentmemory , in Abu Dhabi , Sunday - 3:00pm , meeting point in NYUAD Welcome Center @nyuadartgallery ————— Parallel to the exhibition “Being Borrowed: On Egyptian Migration to the Gulf” that is currently showing in @nyuadartgallery — this interactive walk in the city features one of the exhibition’s artworks (Mapping Absent Memories) by @farida.archives that invites people to spatialize their day-to-day memories they have/had in a temporary home. In an attempt, for us migrants in/ were in the gulf, to trace and materialize the traces of our memories, we invite you to join us where we will visit anonymous memories that were added during the exhibition in Cairo 2022 and AbuDhabi 2024. after a hiatus, Mapping Absent Memory is back for a second round, this time in Abu Dhabi - as part of @anthropology_bel3araby “Being Borrowed: On Egyptian Migration to the Gulf” exhibited at @nyuadartgallery from January 11-February 7. An exhibition announcement, and some thoughts, feelings, and notes, including: -a memory my grandpa left on the map during the first iteration of this exhibition -a positioning statement -a family moment at the salt lake in Abu Dhabi -self portrait on my last morning in Abu Dhabi in June 2022 -a resonant poem shared with me at @tenderpossibilities 📍🗺️🤍

Wonderful to see the diversity of interactions with the map at @anthropology_bel3araby Being Borrowed, in addition to all the contributions. In these videos by Farah Hallaba, we see a contributor sharing a memory from afar via a FaceTime call, and a family that visited the exhibition sharing a story about swimming in hot springs in Ras Al Khaimah 🌊 Thinking about inter-generational exchange, about memories being relayed from one person to another, of how much easier and more fruitful it is to remember together 🌀

Once the map went live, we had been wondering if two (or more) people would share similar memories in the same space, and it’s already happened with this memory of a park near a helipad in Abu Dhabi 🚁🌳 The potential of this occurring was on our minds as we developed this project. Are contributors still strangers if they share the same memory, situated on this map? How is the memory the same, and how is it different? Do they remember the same sights and sounds? What if they were both at this park at the same time, and they never met? What if they met later in life, and never knew they had a shared history in this space, until it was mapped?

A few days into the @anthropology_bel3araby exhibition, "Being Borrowed: On Egyptian Migration to the Gulf,” and the first in-person community contributions to Mapping Absent Memory are so diverse and moving. Thank you to everyone who visited us so far and participated in collective remembering. احنا متحمسين جداً ان مشروع "خريطة ذاكرة غائبة" هيتعرض في معرض "خرج و المفروض يعد؛ عن هجرة المصريين للخليج." الافتتاح يوم ٢ اكتوبر الساعة ٧ و المعرض مستمر لآخر اكتوبر ومفتوح كل يوم من الساعة ١٢-٩ ما عدا يوم الجمعة. ولإن الخريطة قائمة على تفاعلكم، مستنيكم تشاركوا ذكريات العيشة في الخليج في معرض تشاركي. المعرض في اعمال فنية متنوعة بتتفاعل مع هجرة المصرين للخليج. مستنيكم في المعرض و في الفعاليات الموازية من نقاشات، جولات، ورش تفاعلية، و عرض افلام. We’re so excited to share that Mapping Absent Memory’s first in-person stop will be in Cairo at Being Borrowed: On Egyptian Migration to the Gulf. Join us for opening night on Sunday, October 2nd from 7-9PM @ciccairo or any day after then from 12-9PM to contribute to the map-in person. The exhibition is on every day (except for Fridays) until October 31st and features many exciting projects, a publication, and parallel programming. Because the map is community-generated, we’re curious to see what memories will emerge in this collective space alongside other artistic explorations of Egyptian migration to the Gulf.
