As part of this year’s auction, @mapleleafadventures has generously contributed a $7,000 gift certificate toward ANY Maple Leaf Adventures boutique expedition cruise, in any destination: Haida Gwaii, Great Bear Rainforest, Desolation Sound, Salish Sea, Vancouver Island, Alaska, or our Culinary and Wine trips.
________
WTA members represent a wide range of wilderness experiences across BC — each offering their own way of connecting people to the coast.
Maple Leaf Adventures has been doing this for decades through small-ship expedition cruises that prioritize time on the water, access to remote places, and a more personal guest experience.
With small group sizes and flexible itineraries, their trips are shaped by what’s happening around you, wildlife sightings, changing conditions, and opportunities to get ashore with experienced guides.
It’s a style of travel that reflects the kind of work many WTA operators are doing across the province: low-impact, experience-driven, and rooted in place.
All-inclusive trips start at $3,500 per person.

There’s something special about stepping aboard a legend—and the Maple Leaf Adventures schooner Maple Leaf is exactly that. 🌿⛵️
Forty years of exploring the wild, rugged beauty of the BC coast isn’t just a milestone—it’s a legacy of doing tourism differently. Thoughtfully. Responsibly. With deep respect for the places and communities that make this coastline so extraordinary.
As a longtime admirer of this brand, getting to experience it firsthand felt like stepping into a story that’s been decades in the making—one built on conservation, curiosity, and connection.
Even more inspiring? Their continued leadership in the industry—partnering with @cangeo to offer Special Edition Expeditions that go beyond travel, inviting guests to learn, engage, and truly understand the ecosystems they’re exploring.
If you’ve ever dreamed of an eco-adventure that’s as meaningful as it is beautiful… this is your sign.
Here’s to 40 years of charting a better course. And to many more. 🌊

She’s returning to a place that helped shape the journey.
For filmmaker Dianne Whelan, Haida Gwaii is more than a destination — it’s part of the story behind 500 Days in the Wild.
Now, she’s coming back.
This time, not to retrace the path… but to share it.
In July 2027, Dianne joins a small group aboard Maple Leaf as Artist-in-Residence — offering reflections from her 24,000 km journey across Canada, and creating space for others to explore their own.
Along the way: ancient village sites, wild coastlines, quiet anchorages, and the kind of perspective that only comes with time spent close to the land and water.
A different way to experience Haida Gwaii — not just where you go, but how you see.

The 2026 season is underway — and while many voyages are already filling, a handful of remarkable opportunities still remain.
Alaska (Aug 8–18)
Haida Gwaii (Jul 8–16)
Great Bear Rainforest (Oct 10–15)
Gulf Islands (Oct 27–31)
Four very different ways to experience the coast — depending on what calls to you.
These journeys take place aboard Maple Leaf, travelling with a small group and a flexible itinerary shaped by wildlife, weather, and what unfolds around you.
It’s a way of travelling that’s less about following a schedule — and more about being present to the place itself.
Right now, there’s also a rare opportunity to step aboard.
Through the Wilderness Tourism Association of BC’s online auction, we’ve contributed a $7,000 credit toward any 2026 Maple Leaf Adventures voyage — valid across our entire fleet.
For some trips, it’s a meaningful offset.
For others, it can take you most of the way — or cover the experience entirely.
And by bidding, you’re also supporting the work that helps protect access to these places — and the ecosystems they depend on.
Auction closes April 30.
There are still no bids — it’s completely open.

Three ships. One coast. Forty years of stories.
From Victoria to Vancouver, through the Gulf Islands.
Three days on the water —
quiet anchorages, shared moments,
and one evening with all three ships together.
By morning, paths diverged.
Swell onward,
while Maple Leaf and Cascadia continued on together.
For Maple Leaf, a meaningful homecoming.
The beginning of our 40th season on this coast.

@mapleleafadventures runs small ship expeditions through coastal BC and Alaska. During their 40 years on the coast celebration, I had the chance to step aboard their largest vessel, Cascadia, and tour it in person.
The 24 guest expedition catamaran felt bright, spacious, and incredibly comfortable, with outdoor decks, terrace dining, an open bridge, roomy cabins, and even a top deck hot tub. It was easy to imagine spending days out on the water, surrounded by ocean, forest, and wildlife, breathing in the fresh air and taking in the calm beauty of the coast.
They also have two smaller vessels in the fleet, Swell and the historic Maple Leaf. I would absolutely love to experience one of these adventures for myself one day 🛳️

MV MAPLE LEAF IN VANCOUVER
The Vancouver Maritime Museum is hosting the MV Maple Leaf this evening. The ship is visiting from Victoria. They aren’t giving tours of the vessel, but there is a talk tonight where you’ll learn lots and be able to ask questions.
The Vancouver Maritime Museum is a great museum. If you have never been, you should check it out sometime.

She’s just raised a new mainsail.
And with it, 40 years of history carries forward.
Maple Leaf has never stood still — she’s a vessel shaped by time, and still very much alive in it.
In 1986, she was here in Vancouver — at Heritage Harbour — being transformed from a fishing vessel into the expedition ship she is today, unveiled during Expo.
This is where that story began.
On April 18, she returns — not as a piece of the past, but as a living part of the coast, coming home for a moment.
Join us at Heritage Harbour for an evening of dockside connection and a special museum talk with Kevin Smith and Maureen Gordon.
Harbour activations: Free, all ages welcome
Evening talk: Pay-what-you-can (ticket required)

Cadboro Bay. Still water.
A week of training — new faces, familiar ones,
finding our rhythm again before the season begins.
Back on the water,
ready to set sail.
40 years.
We begin April 14.
