HEN HOOSE x SNACK: MONTHLY TALENT SPOTLIGHT ✨
This month, we’re spotlighting Edinburgh-based experimental artist maniatrix
Think shimmering twilight vocals, dark industrial dance music, and synth work that drifts somewhere between ambient dreamscape and total sensory overload.
With their debut album Body Exchange Rate set for release later this year, we caught up with maniatrix to talk Oscar-winning ambitions, Marina Abramović fantasies, crying to Fleetwood Mac, and why musicians shouldn’t have to become full-time influencers just to survive.
We also find out their dream collaborator, delusional long-term goal, and the cult movie fan page they once ran on Facebook.

maniatrix puts on a tie for a wonderful evening of musical and social pleasantries at @edinburghpalms
Deepest of gratitudes to @larasinclair_ for remembering that you can’t spell “network” without “net” and “work” and a special commendation to colleagues @samwooddoowmas and @scottmoore2 for putting on a great show that was sure to pique shareholders interests. A wonderful evening and I look forward to catching up with friends and colleagues alike at the next one.
Get to know your artists ahead of Thursday…
maniatrix is a producer, DJ and performer residing in Edinburgh. Known for their whimsically dark sound, airy vocals, and surreal visuals, maniatrix has performed in various galleries, antique stores, pubs and clubs across Edinburgh, Prague, and Berlin. Their two albums, “G.R.I.” and “You Can Be Any Kind of Dog You Want!” are available on all streaming services.
samwooddoowmas is the project of Edinburgh-based artist Sam Wood. His music
shifts between hypnotic ambient passages, abrasive noise and fast, percussive electronics,
moving fluidly across genre boundaries. In 2025, he released Beat, a double album
exploring industrial techno and breaks. Previous albums include Modes of Transportation
(2024), built around field recordings of different transport methods such as cars, horses,
trains, boats and walking, and Alphabet (2023), a reflection on dyslexia. He also released
two albums and two EPs in 2022.
Known for DIY methods and unconventional performances — including a live set
inside a urinal and playing bass with a bicycle — he manipulates sound through tape loops,
digital processing and analog instruments. His live shows have included PAS in Berlin, Piano
Drome, Leith Depot and Summerhall, pushing performance and genre boundaries.
skotti, host of the Saturday morning brekky show on EHFM has been broadcasting on the station since 2020, previously as kindred sound. skotti’s dj sets draw on a wide range of influences from trance, dub, ambient and downtempo, alongside some of his own diy edits and productions.
Since it's Bandcamp Friday and all, I released a little free track that I've been working on called "i want to trust", which samples the iconic dlp 1.1 by @musex1
