Lynne Marie Stewart passed away yesterday after 78 years of being the sweetest human that possibly ever lived. She was a real-life fairy godmother to my wife, the Most Beautiful Woman in Puppetland, Batman’s Aunt, Charlie’s Mom, Mother of Bride, selfless, fiercely independent, KIND, and absolutely fucking hilarious. She touched so many peoples’ lives in such profound ways. I’m going to miss her a lot. Big giant hugs to you all from me and the family.

I’ve been a fan of Montreal based DJ/artist @realkidkoala since I was 17.  I first discovered him through his albums on Ninja Tune where he was part of the label’s golden era alongside folks like Bonobo and Amon Tobin.  He’s also a member of Deltron 3030, has worked on cult classics like @gorillaz , Lovage and much more.  In addition to being one of the most uniquely skilled turntablists on Earth, he also plays clarinet, piano, synths, makes beats and much more. It’s very likely you’ve heard his work on TV and film projects like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Baby Driver, Shaun of the Dead, Sesame Street, Yo Gabba Gabba! and Adult Swim.  Last week I had the honor of interviewing Kid Koala for @kutx at the Texas Performing Arts Center where he brought his ambitious “The Storyville Mosquito” project for a series of performances.  The show combines live turntablism, piano, synths, bass guitar, drums and a live string trio with live puppetry and a camera crew to create a fully soundtracked film in one take.  It’s so densely layered in creative ideas I’m struggling to even describe it, but it was one of the most unique and memorable shows I’ve ever seen.  Tune into the Soundfounder show on @kutx this week to hear the interview Huge thanks to @filipinofist for connecting me, @tpapresents for making the interview possible, and @manewitz coming to take photos

Steve Albini was a professional hero of mine. A living example that if you cared about something enough and took pride in your craft that not only could you do amazing things, you could inspire everyone around you to do amazing things as well. When I was around 20 at the first @tapeopmag conference in Portland (2003?) I worked up the nerve to talk to him and tell him that the guitar on Kerosene by Big Black were one of the greatest sounds ever recorded. I was about to apologize for bugging him and perhaps, sensing my imminent internal spiral he quickly reassured me “Thank you. Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Mimi Parker of @lowtheband . Like a lot of people, watching Low and listening to their records over the years have been some of the most powerful emotional experiences of my life. How lucky we all were that she shared so much of herself with us for so many years.

@courtneymelba brought @hereandtherefest to @acllive last night. I got to hug some friends, bring my family and watch the show from way closer than I’ve gotten to before. Great humans all around who left jaws on the floor. Congrats to band and crew on making it through to the home stretch of an insane year of touring.

Every band and crew on the road right now is getting their ass kicked between travel/airport logistics, health conditions, gas prices and weather. Brought the @jackievenson show to Dallas for an event supporting @betoorourke ’s bid for Texas Governor. I got to see my friend @ellenburris in action and hang out with LITERAL SUPERHERO and Nobel Peace Prize nominee @therealopallee who has more fight in her at 95 than anyone I’ve met at any age. It’s easy to get cynical about the state of the world, but there are good people throwing themselves into the melee to try and fight for us, and you can join them. It’s not easy work and no candidate is perfect, but voting for Beto is the way you can help end the unimaginable cruelty and horror of what Greg Abbot has wrought during his term in Texas.
