The prolific North Carolina-based DJ and producer GRRL (James Mapley-Brittle) describes his relationship to music as “obsessive.” It makes sense: he’s had a monthly NTS show since 2015, produced multiple glistening projects, and played major sets alongside Porter Robinson, A.G. Cook, and Anamanguchi. His style — bright, but brutal — is on display on his latest album, ‘Beetle,’ a 24-track swarm released on the venerable PC Music.
