Something new. In September, coming off a summer of mat leave, I started a new job overseeing a site called Week& @helloweekand . Picture the weekend section of the newspaper, a mighty little hub of ideas about how to spend your time outside of work plus all the info/local recs you need to get out and start doing. Itās been nonstopāvery exciting to build something from scratch, totally wild to do so with two tiny children in tow. Today we launched our first major feature: Operation Free Time, a guide to a happy year. Itās a collaboration between three creatives I truly adore, @latonyayvette@witanddelight_ glentickle, plus a lot of hustle from @carlydanr@bybelp@bridgetwi@red0927 and others. So much more to come. Watch our sizzle and WEEP then follow along at #operationfreetime as we make it a year to remember.
Heart and hands very full these days. Lytle Bird Clifford joined us on Thursday; heās squishy and squeaky and smells like strawberries. Big sister is already teaching him to make mischief. Everything is a heavenly spring fever dream. ā„ļø
Happy newsstand day to this extra-special issue of @housebeautiful . Making a magazine is a little like raising a kid: thrilling, exhausting, gratifying, and generally unpredictable despite all best efforts otherwise. It really takes a village. Bravo to my colleagues and all the designers who make magic so we can celebrate it. Now get thee to a corner store/airport to buy a copy!
Photogs, we love you too. Tagging here since I ran out of tags on photos! JD Ireland: @trevorbparker / French & French: @laurenpressey / Alexandra Killion: @parbengtsson1 / Eneia White: @nickglimenakis / Lathem Gordon: @emilyfollowillphotographer / The Local Vault: @reidrolls
Scene of the crime! In some ways, weāve all grown upāfound love, launched careers, birthed 29 š„² babies, etc etc. But I still think of us as the wide-eyed 20-somethings who painted our rooms the colors in a crayon box and stayed up doing⦠a variety of activities. Brain cells were lost, bonds were formed. It was so fun to get back to Charlottesville together with four breast pumps and more than one work laptop in tow (and really freak out the girls who currently live in our old house). To forever friends ā£ļø
Forever in love with the cover of our Spring issue, a bananas gallery wall-velvet chair-patterned rug combo by the one and only @raymanboozer . Read all about it in @carly_olson ās story when you run to your nearest newsstand to pick up an issue on Tuesday! So much needed happy energy in this magazine. š»
One week with our hearts on a string. Olive Alexander Clifford, could anything have prepared us for this feeling? Like taking an everyday left turn and driving right into a blinding sunrise. Honestly, it hurts! And itās making us feel alive. You were born into a world in need of a lot of things: healing, hope, change, strength. Iām sure there will be cloudy days. But right now there is you. And so, so much light in the sky.
Reposting this from @sirjohn because itās me: Iām privileged to sit around hand-wringing about how to word my support for a people being murdered; privileged to be tasked with ālistening and learningā rather than fighting for my life; privileged to be able to go on a run, take up a protest, and even commit a crime without fear of getting choked to death by someone Iām told is there to protect me. My actionsāwhose voices I help project, where I spend my money, with whom I spend my timeāwill always matter more than what I post on Instagram, and thank God. But itās gotta be said. Iām so grateful for those holding the world accountable. Standing up for the Black and POC communities has always been my cross to bear as a white person; time will tell how good I am at promising to ābe betterā about actually doing it.
