It was truly a wonderful experience screening When Malcolm Smiled in DC at Sankofa Books, not only because it was a chance to remember Malcolm X on the anniversary of his passng but also because Sankofa is owned by legendary filmmaker, Haile Gerima.
I took my first ever screenwriting course with Prof Gerima back in my freshman year at Howard University and reflected on how much his course has impacted me as a writer and filmmaker.

At the 68th @grammys , Fela Kuti was posthumously awarded with the Lifetime Achievement. (The first African artist to receivethis award!)
Our team had the pleasure to attend the incredible Afrobeat Rebellion: Fela Kuti exhibition in Lagos, Nigeria which highlighted his life and art. There were many moments in the exhibition which mentioned Malcolm X and his influence on Fela's philosophy of Black consciousness, Pan Africanism and resistance against oppression.
