I’m beyond excited that my @malaphors_ remix of @sisterraydavies ‘Nave’ is now out there on 10” coloured vinyl, and the usual streaming services! Thanks @soniccathedral@adam.m.morrow and @jamiesego for asking me to do it!
The original of Nave is a beautiful slice of ambient guitar drone; I took a two second sample and run it through a @fieldtone_instruments Weaver, thus creating the burbling ambience that you hear throughout the song. Other snippets of the original are dotted here and there. I had originally planned on giving it a Reese style bassline (I’d been listening to a lot of E-Dancer) but with my drum programming and keys, things ended up going in another direction!
One thing I remember about making music (it’s been such a long time) is that it’s VERY DIFFICULT TO FINISH A PROJECT COZ YOU CANT STOP TWEAKING IT! There was something missing, so I added my own guitar drone over the climatic bit.

Next weekend, my first music output in over twenty years gets premiered at @allthingsfungifestival in the @espfc23 tent for the 14 Hour Technicolour Drone, with visual accompaniment from me too. My remix of Nave takes a couple of sections of the guitar drone, and I have built a tune around that.
Very pleased to announce that I have a remix appearing on the new @sisterraydavies 10” EP which is up for pre-order over at @soniccathedral
The original version of Naves is a guitar based ambient drone, I took a couple of samples, tweaked them, and built a tune around them. Can’t wait for this to be released on 17th April.

Next Thursday, I’ll be supporting @immersion_hq at @alphabetbrighton , performing as @malaphors_ my new AV project (with the emphasis on the ‘A’ bit.

On Tuesday evening, my new music project ‘Malaphors’ had its first live debut at the Komedia supporting the lovely @deathandvanilla !
I’d like to thank my dear friends who bought tickets and came down early to watch my performance. It was a very respectful audience; there was no chatter, which was something I was worried about… it can be so distracting. The applause was overwhelming, and I’ve had some great feedback from people!
I’d also like to thank Anna at @meltingvinylbrighton for taking a chance on me, Tom for being a great rep on the day, the team at the Komedia (Matt, Simon and Emma, who are always consummate professionals), but also Anders, Marleen and Magnus of Death and Vanilla for their great company and support on the day.
I’m looking forward to doing this again, but hoping to have more time to prepare (and rehearse those little mistakes away!) Tuesday’s set was a bit too rushed in the end; I got very busy in the lead up to this show, and other stuff took priority.
