Weāre so excited to introduce Home Turf, the creative vision of cultural producer Ashton Jones-Frame. Using football and fashion, this project explores race, class and masculinity through the voices of young East London men who are rarely asked to share their stories.
Brought to life by Ashton in collaboration with the Portal Centre for Social Impact (home of Making for Change) and LCF Kit & Print, through the Creative Newham Cultural Producers Programme, the exhibition wopens this Wednesday 13 May and runs until 14 June in the Mezzanine Space at LCF East Bank!

Home Turf is a new exhibition co-created with young men from East London and LCF students, using football and fashion as a starting point for deeper conversations around identity, masculinity and self-expression.
Many young men, particularly working-class and Black men, continue to navigate spaces where their stories are overlooked or misrepresented, with limited opportunities to be seen and heard on their own terms.
Delivered by LCFās Portal Centre for Social Impact in partnership with Ashton Jones-Frame, Home Turf opens up those conversations, challenging narrow perceptions of masculinity and offering a more honest, personal perspective.
Home Turf is programmed as part of The Music is Black Festival, an East Bank-wide programme of events, performances, dance and screenings taking place across Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from April to November 2026, celebrating the V&A East Museumās inaugural exhibition, The Music is Black: A British Story.
Visitors can also explore Resonant Matter, running alongside Home Turf, which examines the spaces and scenes where music, fashion and community come together.

Hereās a look at our Community Costumes project this year, working with LCF BA Costume for Performance students and Year 5 at Brampton Primary School to explore the story of Cinderella. The video features the children reading the story and images showing the costumes they created in workshops. There is a new blog post explaining more about the project this year - link is in our ācommunityā highlights! šøšāļø
Reflecting on my journey to Kakuma in Kenya, one of the largest refugee camps in Africa. Our collaboration with @guaafrica has been evolving over the past 18 months. An inspirational charity founded by @emmanueljal whose own journey has ensured his purpose to support refugee communities, through creativity, education, entrepreneurship and music. The collaboration has involved London College of Fashion students over two projects, their ideas helped to formulate a response to the women of Kakuma 4 who want to create a female-led business that enables financial autonomy as well as build on their skills and knowledge. After consultation with the women, we collectively designed a school uniform for their children making them accessible. Key features included utilising simple design features which didnāt rely on costly resources (zips, buttons, elastic). Adjustable waists and lengths ensure a longer lifespan of garments. Over the course of our visit, we went to the Gatwich hub, an oasis in Kakuma 4, housing a library, education space, a garden, cafe and creative projects, a lifeline to the communities there. We met with representatives of business development, schools and education and most importantly, the women of Kakuma 4. Collaboration which nurtures, trust, creativity, inspiration and guided by āGuaā āwalk in your purposeā and steadily āpolepoleā to ensure we all arrive at our destination together. #gratefulthankfulblessed #inspirational
Over seven weeks, we collaborated with @sirlute to provide Fashion Fusion workshops for students age 13-16 where they learnt about pattern cutting, how to use a sewing machine, screen printing, embroidery and jewellery making ā making a skirt and top!
The students learnt about the many different creative career opportunities available and were able to showcase their creativity, producing lovely outcomes!
We also emphasised the importance of recycled materials.
In the lead up to World Book Day, we collaborated with Discover to put on public workshops with families based on the books: Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid and Little Red Riding Hood.
The children got to create their own Thumbelina flower fairy hats, Little Mermaid Tails and Little Red Riding Hood puppets! We emphasised the importance of collaboration, storytelling, arts and crafts, and
recycling and sustainable craft practices, using recycled and scrap materials and collaborating with LCF students to plan and deliver the workshops!
