Great conversations often start around a table.
We were honoured to be selected as the charity of choice at the @hfxchamber of Commerce’s Future of Health Care event, featuring the Honourable Michelle Thompson, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Health and Wellness, and Karen Oldfield, President and CEO of Nova Scotia Health, alongside leaders from across Nova Scotia’s health and business sectors discussing the future of health care in Nova Scotia.
We especially appreciated Minister Thompson’s acknowledgement of the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation and the role prevention plays within the broader health and wellness ecosystem. Bringing prevention conversations forward alongside discussions about health care capacity, innovation and systems change is an important part of building healthier communities for the future.
It was wonderful to see Minister Thompson continuing to champion community wellness and movement by joining the spirit of the Make Your Move Community Challenge powered by @wellnifyai in her role as MLA for Antigonish. She’s even encouraging fellow MLAs representing our participating communities to get involved as well, helping build momentum and friendly community spirit across the province.
The future of health care will not be shaped by one sector alone. It will come from people around tables sharing ideas, building partnerships and finding new ways to support healthier communities before people become sick.
Events like this are an important reminder that collaboration and collective leadership matter.
This morning the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation team joined an NS Walks group at Point Pleasant Park for the annual NS Walks Day. It was beautiful to see the buds on the trees and feel the warmth of the sun.
If you don’t know about NS Walks, they offer free group walks across Nova Scotia (Mi’ki’maki). They also offer free walk leader training for those that want to support others in adding more movement to their day. To learn more, visit NSWalks.ca
What if movement did not feel like another thing on your to-do list?
In this week’s video, Dr. Irina Ghenea from Lifestyle Medicine at Ocean View Family Practice, shares how simple movement can fit naturally into everyday life in ways that feel realistic, enjoyable and sustainable.
The goal is not perfection. It is finding small opportunities to move in ways that work for you and your routine. A short walk, stretching while the coffee brews, playing outside with your kids or choosing to move with others in your community all count.
When movement feels approachable, it becomes easier to stick with over time.
We’d love to hear how you’re making movement part of your day this week. 💚
What a lovely post @rootedwithmelinda tagged us in for the start of Mental Health Week! Thanks for sharing! Head over to her original post to see all the beautiful things in nature she saw along the way.
Her post: Make Your Move Monday kicked off Mental Health Week with a beautiful walk through the trails of Trenton Park. 🌿
Spending time outside with my students as nature slowly awakens was such a gift — fresh air, curious conversations, muddy shoes, and moments to simply breathe.
Sometimes the best thing we can do for our minds is step away from the noise and move our bodies in the quiet of nature.
Take this as your sign:
get outside, take a walk, and let nature make space for you to breathe.

Today, the team at the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation is celebrating Make Your Move Day by getting active in all kinds of ways!
Rachael and Ruby joined the festivities in New Glasgow, where community leads hosted a local walk, and also stopped by Antigonish to take part in the day’s celebrations. Jocelyn embraced the great outdoors with her partner and pup, while Lyz got moving by tackling some work on her deck to get it ready for staining.
No matter how you choose to move today, every step counts and is worth celebrating! Keep finding small ways to add movement into your day and enjoy the many benefits it brings to your health and well-being.
Wishing everyone a fun, active, and inspiring Make Your Move Day!

Tomorrow is Make Your Move Day!
On May 9, 2023, the Province of Nova Scotia officially proclaimed May 9 as Make Your Move Day, recognizing the importance of simple, everyday movement and the role it plays in building healthier people, stronger communities and a healthier future for Nova Scotia.
What started as a social marketing campaign has grown into something much bigger — a movement focused on helping create a culture where movement is visible, valued and supported in everyday life.
From walking with neighbours, to dancing in the kitchen, to spending time outdoors, Make Your Move is about showing that movement doesn’t have to be complicated to make a difference. Every move counts.
Tomorrow, we invite Nova Scotians to celebrate with us by moving a little more in whatever way works for you. Walk your neighbourhood. Take the stairs. Join a community event. Move with a friend. Start where you are.
Here’s to building a culture of movement across Nova Scotia, one small move at a time. 💙
