Forest Etiquette began six years ago, with soap. In the early days of the pandemic, with my six-year-old son home from kindergarten, our days were filled with hiking, foraging, + gardening. I had time, herbs, + a pull toward something new, so I started teaching myself about making cold process soap. By summer, my kitchen table was covered in bars of all different colours, scents, + experiments. Once I found my base formula, I began selling the bars on Etsy + Forest Etiquette was officially born. Soap making is both ancient + endlessly creative. It’s a practice that feels as grounding as baking sourdough or knitting - traditional, tactile, + still so relevant. I’ve wanted to teach it for years, + I’m finally doing it, with the incredible support of Amanda @makesharevictoria . Join us for a 4-hour workshop at @seaciderhouse on May 23rd. We’ll make soap together using organic oils + butters, essential oils, + Island clays, share a long table lunch, + wander the orchard + woods. You’ll leave with 8 bars of soap, my base recipe, + the knowledge to continue your soap making journey at home. ✨Join us Sunday, May 31st 11am- 3pm for this special Kurinuki Mug Workshop: A Slow Making Experience ~ a 4-hour immersive workshop & mini Spring retreat! 🌿A glorious day of pottery, meditation, nature, food & community, at the beautiful Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse @seaciderhouse We’ll begin with a short meditation to help you arrive and ground into the creative process. You’ll be introduced to the basics of kurinuki — a traditional Japanese carving technique where forms are created by hollowing out a solid block of clay. This process invites a more intuitive, tactile approach to making, resulting in a mug that feels deeply personal and one-of-a-kind. No prior experience is needed. 🌲Midway through, we’ll pause for some lunch & cider, followed by a gentle walk through the forest to gather inspiration from the textures and quiet of the natural surroundings. We’ll return to the pavilion to finish working on our pieces, and at the end of the workshop you’ll leave your piece behind to be dried, fired, and glazed.
