"It's a blessing to be amongst like minded people working in a variety of different career paths and industries, so theres always opportunities to learn from one another and collaborate."
Meet Richard Adetokunbo Aina- British-Nigerian architect, researcher, writer, and craftsman. His work is driven by a deep interest in material heritage, associative traditional practice, mixed typologies and liminal space. This has led him to explore contemporary African aesthetic reinterpretations, which he calls "afrorevivalism".
Under the name I-JŌKŌ, he is currently developing the AKỌKỌ COLLECTION, a landmark showcase of handcrafted afrorevivalist furniture 🪑.

Meet one half of Hiro - Rob Macdonald 🐦⬛.
Hiro is a London-based design studio founded by Hils and Rob.
With backgrounds in both design and music, the duo originally worked under the name Muffat Prague and are now evolving their practice under the name Hiro.
Their work is driven by observations of the human and natural world. Many of their products revolve around their signature bird form, Oiseaux, a shape that emerged from early experiments with typography. From this motif, they create a range of prints often celebrating different geographical locations.
Always exploring new ideas, the studio is currently developing a collection of bowls crafted from reclaimed London timber.
Keep up with @hi.studiohiro to see their latest projects!

"Everyone in here has definitely got that positive attitude that nothing is impossible!"
Meet Kerrie O’Leary - Irish artist and researcher. Her work breathes life into data through technology, digital tools and physical computing. From motors and sensors to creative coding and drawing machines.
We’re surrounded by data, yet it’s often hard to grasp what it’s telling us. Kerrie transforms this complexity into tactile, kinetic sculptures and immersive experiences that you can see, hear, and feel.
Growing up in Dublin, she’s been shaped by water from a young age. Rooted in hydrofeminism (learning from water) her practice visualises water’s fluidity and non-binary states to imagine new ways of living and coexisting with nature. 🌊
When not in Makerversity, Kerrie can usually be spotted along the Thames or another body of water. 🧜🏼♀️

Introducing Makers with a Mission resident Harith Wilson 🛠️✨
Harith Wilson is a design engineer and Innovation Design Engineering graduate from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London, working at the intersection of human centred design and social impact. His practice focuses on creating work that responds not only to function, but also to emotional, spiritual, and cultural experience.
Hi latest project is MANTIS, an ergonomic assistive prayer chair designed to support elderly and mobility impaired Muslims in performing prayer with comfort, dignity, and independence. Acting as an assistive system rather than a static chair, MANTIS supports key transitions of prayer through inclusive and culturally sensitive design.
Drawing from contemporary furniture and subtle Islamic aesthetics, the project challenges the clinical language of assistive products, creating something users can feel proud to have in their homes and places of worship.
At Makerversity, Harith will develop MANTIS from prototype to production-ready product through iterative prototyping, material testing, and user engagement.

A bar, a café and the best place to be 🍹
Managed by Makerversity, The Paint Room at Somerset House is where residents and makers come to work, meet, and have a couple aperol's. Monday to Friday, 9–4pm, no booking needed.
We've been loving hosting our Wednesday Workshops there, bringing the community together to learn something new. One of our faves? Kombucha making😎 🍵
Need the space after hours? We've got a late licence and can host your next event, meeting, or private hire well into the evening.
Oh, and we cater for events across the building too. ☕️

Introducing Makers with a Mission resident Weronika Turowska 🌱🧫
@blunikstudio is led by biodesigner and material researcher Weronika Turowska, whose practice explores regenerative design through living materials, microbial systems, and organic waste streams. Working with mycelium, algae, bacteria, and food waste, she develops experimental biomaterials that rethink how we design, produce, and relate to matter.
A key part of her work is De-LAB, a collaborative research and publishing project sharing open-source biomaterial recipes and tools to make biodesign knowledge more accessible.
At Makerversity, Weronika will expand De-LAB as a collaborative platform. Where she will be testing biomaterial processes, developing new applications, and running workshops that bring hands on biomaterial experimentation to wider communities.

Introducing Makers with a Mission residents Prima Materia 🏗️♻️
@primamateria.design is reimagining what happens to the materials inside London’s buildings when they come down. Salvaging high quality stone, timber, and metals destined for landfill and transforming them into unique, sculptural furniture pieces with a story to tell.
With the UK construction industry generating 68 million tonnes of waste annually, Prima Materia is proving that demolition doesn’t have to mean destruction and that beautiful, modern design can begin exactly where a building ends.🪑
At Makerversity, Prima Materia will be accessing the wood and metal workshops to develop scalable prototypes, refine their circular design process, and continue their mission to keep material heritage alive in the city that created it.
