Let's say you have a simulated Dark Ride and need a themed 'dock' from which to set out on your journey... Grab a life vest(VR rig) and step aboard. The giant centered 'tile' is the deck of your fanboat, and it sits just proud of the surrounding rubber cork, so your feet know not to step in the drink even when you can't see them.

Going off lovely concept art by @chrisalsopillustration , I started by drafting out some plans on #sketchup. We had a limited budget, some lumber from EcoSet, and a list of priorities and stretch goals.
The Civil Servant is the #god of his #office, so he has to loom mightily over his clients from behind a power #desk. The accent wall behind him provides a #brutalist halo.
@sirwitchcrafts helped me build out the flats, and I carved the sun and rays from #xpsfoam with a tracksraw, router, and some jigs. The foam was hardcoated with wood glue before paint.
With the desk, the #script called for an interface and a drawer for our protagonist to interact with. I'll keep mum on the details so you can witness the magic yourselves. Suffice it to say, @its_sizzle & @analogatelierart killed it on the #scenicpaint and #weathering.
We are surviving through the banality of evil together, so it's fun to have creatively poked fun at the faceless beaurocrats who kill more with the pen than with a sword.
There will eventually come a time when your sense of stewardship for the craft and belief in a cause is taken advantage of. It will take many forms and it won't be the last. After all, you always want to give people the benefit of the doubt, lest you become hardened and bitter.
I was approached to design, engineer, and fabricate a dynamic, organic, and otherworldly transport. The whole film's concept revolved around this "hero prop". And it had to be ✨️affordable✨️
I'm very proud of what I managed to pull off. Any sane person would have priced it at least $1,000 higher. As an aside, if your project is called "Jurassic Park", you don't want to spare any expense on either the Jurassic or the Park as being thrifty might lead to complications.
Every piece had an odd angle or a beveled cut and the completed pod had to open and shut seamlessly. The last slide shows only a fraction of the numbers that swam through my head that week. And when it came time to seal and paint the thing, the skies decided to pour buckets on me - rinsing off the hardcoat on the foam and the finish coat as fast as I could lay it down. Those 5 days felt like an eternity and I was still chastised for not turning in perfection.

#cardboard is such a humble material that, when coaxed by artistry into something unusual, becomes wondrous and inspiring. It's so plentiful that we can easily overlook its potential.
@mander_mudduck_puppeterer gave me some pointers on fabricating and surface finishing, and I ran with the design & paint for this simple #bear #costume for @the_puppet_scouts
I began by cutting a front and side silhouette and interlocking them with #hotglue. These reference edges were then connected by a series of methodically trimmed carboard panels that got covered in a packing paper maché of watered-down wood glue. The teeth were carved from L200, and the eyes are ping pong balls.
#airbrushed with #acrylicpaint and a couple of hand-brushed details, then sealed with #krylon using clear gloss to highlight the mouth, nose, and eyes.
Last #crafting project of the year! This little #therian stocking stuffer was a delightful challenge.
First, the #cardboard #mask was reinforced with a mix of Durham's putty sprinkled into heavily diluted PVA #glue. I carefully laid down the brush strokes in the direction of fur growth. After a couple of coats, I applied #celluclay to the bridge of the nose and ear tips to bring out the #cat details. Another couple layers of watery putty sealed up the topographic alterations. Then, I sanded the nose smooth and trimmed the shape back into the eyes with a craft knife, knocking off any drips that hardened along the edges as well. The #paint was done in humble #craft #acrylics.
I hope to make another #papermache project next year and continue practicing #painting since I seldom do it professionally.

I was lucky to find a small slab of figured #maple in Home Depot of all places. They don't differentiate! The dark stripes in the glue-up might be rosewood, but I'm not sure. The board was sanded up to 600 grit and then buffed with food safe mineral oil. I rarely work with fancy #hardwood, but I hope to do it more often.

The holster on the side is for straight edges and saw tracks and the socket in the corner provides power for the compressor inside.

A little #cabinetry exercise: copying a missing #drawer to complete a salvaged desk
Always happy to save good furniture from the landfill. I milled the rail from poplar and copied the captured bottom design of the original. It was so pleasing to add the cream accent paint to the drawer front's edge. A classic one-day build.

I've been a fan of the #franklloydwright textile houses since childhood, as they are clearly inspired by Mesoamerican art. The Ennis blocks, in particular, have featured in several movies. Of course, #BladeRunner is one of them, and for that reason, I just had to mold one!
This one is slush cast and then backfilled with foam urethane for durability and weight. The faux finish is textured spray paint over a tan base coat. Someday, I'll have the budget to make a whole wall of these as well as the breeze block variant.
This streetworthy #hoverboard is up for grabs. I can sell with or without hardware, but this #skateboard is meant for riding.
The licensed #bttf2 deck is heavily modified, with custom (Mattel) decals and an extra coarse grip tape "footpad". After carefully hand-masking the edge, I sealed the top with a mix of varnish and crushed glass for transparent traction. The maple-ply cruiser is mounted on stacked #gullwingtrucks for a smooth carve that feels like floating!
