Here's some of my favourite speakers I ever made- made them this year in Colombia as a gift for a loved one. The speaker boxes for the midtops are Totuma shells, (in English Calabash I think)which are often used for plates, maracas and many other things. The tree in the background of these photos is actually the tree that they presumably came from (I found them dusty and starting to be eaten by bugs in a shed on that plot). They sound sooooooooo nice for real instrument music and acoustic/organic things. Less special on electronic stuff. But some of the nicest sounding ever for music especially that might have the Totuma used in it (Salsa,Bullerengue, Cumbia etc...) Natural and full, rich. With electronic music they were okay but didn't sound special. With organic music they are mesmerising! The sub has a crazy port as you can see I routed it in to a piece of wood then sandwiched it. I had no info about the driver and wanted it to go fairly low in a tiny box so did some rough calculations and did that crazy long thin port. Think it might have done something weird to the excursion but also think the amp might have just been too strong for the driver. Anyway it's a characterful and soulful set of speakers that's for sure. I put a lot of love in to them and they're definitely special. That was a nice thing I did this year! (One of many... I'm certainly blessed mad grateful. 🙏)

Here is a bit of a late post of the other sound system build that @makermark.mark did in Colombia earlier this year. This was another battery powered small sound system, this one built near Camarones, in La Guajira. Ran alongside a series of art, craft and dance workshops for the small children run by @danilua.salgado , we built this sound system together with the community. They wanted it to be movable on motorbike cos thats the main form on transport there, so we made this one just small enough to be able to take it on a motorbike. This System is used regularly for the kids birthday parties now, run by amazing woman from the community, who gives extra educational support for all the kids from the neighborhood. And of course inbetween the kids parties this mini Pico is playing Vallenato every day from the porch.

‘The World is Sound’ G-Shock Radio takeover for October 2025!

Session 6: we’ve got Rian O’Grady and MakerMark bringing in their indulgent selections!

Drummer and producer Ryan O’Grady came to my attention from a friend that was working on a project using raga music instruments with ambient textures, beats and all kinds of other electronic elements, so I’m super excited to listen to his selections and talk to him about his musical journey!

MakerMark is a dj, rapper, producer, sound system & community builder. This promises to be another wonderful deep dive into musical indulgence!

It’s going to be another beautiful deep dive into the music most loved by my guests, so make sure you tune in to G-Shock Radio!

Thanks to @gshocklondon and the awesome @navski72

11-2pm: Sway of the Verses
2-4pm: Rian O’Grady
4-6pm: MakerMarker

FIRST FELT RIG BUILT OUTSIDE THE UK! Has been a pleasure to do this project. With various kids and adults from the community we have made a battery powered portable sound system (Pico) in San Basilio de Palenque, historically and continually a very important place in story of liberty and the struggle against colonialism. Probably the most important part of this project was the learning and practice of the young people contributing and learning new skills. Safe to say, a lot of learning done in all directions. Will do a post of videos soon. Its amazing to see and feel the growth of Felt as an ever expanding movement. Personally, (speaking as MakerMark) one of the days of the project while we were working on this speaker, knowing that meanwhile the Felt crew was putting on a party in London was incredible! Tomorrow (Friday 4th!) in London, they're doing it again! So if you're in London you should definitely check that out for your dose of community vibes. More speaker building with community coming soon, in Colombia and in London this summer. 🧡🧡🧡

⏩ UPDATE ON CAFECITO CON LECHE PROJECT IN VENEZUELA. ⏪ Due to the current political situation in Venezuela we are having to postpone our speaker building project there. Vital internationally based members of the organisation of this project ( 🇻🇪&🇬🇧 ) are unable to enter the country due to political safety concerns, for what appear suspicious entrances to the country to an increasingly desperate regime. This is heartbreaking for us. ❓SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DONATED MONEY??❓ From the fundraiser party we (@feltsoundsystem and @popola_uk ) put on, we raised about £620. £300 of this was sent to Cafecito con Leche in Venezuela to fund food for the children over the Christmas period. The rest of the money went towards buying the audio equipment to make the speakers (although money for this has also come from Felt Sound System, and from @makermark.mark , as the party did not raise enough to cover everything.) ❓SO WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE SPEAKER EQUIPMENT???❓ We are now going to do a different project with the equipment, in Colombia, in Palenque (San Basilio de Palenque). Palenque was the first free town of African decendants in the Americas. Its cultural and political significance is gigantic. Look it up for more info. There we are going to use the equipment to build a sound system with the community, especially young people, for community use with a strong emphasis on serving the children of the town. We will be doing this in conjunction with @la.maldita.vieja , an important community project in Palenque. The speaker equipment is currently in transit to Colombia. ↪OVERVIEW:↩ Half of the original money raised went to Cafecito con Leche to buy food for the original powerful and important project with children in Venezuela. Half of the money went towards an amazing educational sound system project in Palenque, in Colombia. 🎞📽THE VIDEO CLIP🎥🎞is of some of the kids from Palenque enjoying a smaller version of what we will be doing there, @makermark.mark 's suitcase speaker, after a theatre event by @danilua.salgado . THESE ARE THE VIBES WE WILL BE CREATING TOGETHER WITH THE COMMUNITY WITH THIS PROJECT! That and lots of learning for everyone. 🧡
