Make BLS Basic

@makeblsbasic

350,000 cardiac arrests occur annually in the US and <10% survive to hospital discharge. A major reason is a lack of bystander CPR. Let's change that!

#CPRSaturday There are multiple ways to learn the life saving skill of CPR and different levels of certification. To simplify think. 1. BLS Certification: Generally more expensive/ comprehensive. Mandated for certain professions. 2. Friends and Family CPR: More affordable option for general population. Receive a certificate of participation. 3. Hands Only CPR: Accessible, simplified yet effective training. Many local AHA offices offer this training for free to community organizations. Contact yours today! Whichever path you decide we recommend EVERYONE receive hands on training. Learn to save the one you love. #makeblsbasic

#CPRSaturday In this study by Sasson et al., 29% of people received bystander CPR. If you were in a black, low- income neighborhood you were half as likely to get CPR than in a white, high-income neighborhood. Next week we'll talk levels of competence and where you can get affordable training! #makeblsbasic

#CPRSaturday Already shown in black neighborhoods we now know survival and bystander CPR rates are lower in Hispanic communities. No more! #makeblsbasic

#CPRSaturday Unfortunately these are NOT fun facts. Among male division I basketball players the rate of sudden cardiac death is 1:3000. This isn't a disease of the old. Be prepared. Save the one you love. #makeblsbasic /content/close-the-gap/en-US/heart-disease-facts/young-athletes.html

#CPRSaturday Half of Americans don't know how to identify a heart attack. I'd suspect even more can't differentiate a heart attack from a cardiac arrest. If you can't recognize it you can't treat it. Could you save the one you love? #MakeBLSBasic /article/us-health-heartattack/nearly-half-of-u-s-adults-dont-recognize-some-heart-attack-symptoms-idUSKBN1YM2EP

Why we're so passionate about out of hospital cardiac arrest. This is a database of consecutive cardiac arrest patients. Only 1 survived. Each of these victims woke up at home with their families but never made it back to their beds. Can you save the one you love? #makeblsbasic
