Exploring tapered forms with the new stave collection led me to revisit some earlier experiments with thermoforming recycled plastics. Instead of a straight up and down form, a tapered flat top cone can be achieved when moulded around a tapered jig. Pictured here using the earth collection from @smile.materials . More details available online, or get in touch for custom sizes and trade pricing. #furniture #design #recycledmaterials

Another part of the new series is a cafe/bistro style table constructed from recycled plastics, where the central plinth, top and steel base are mechanically fixed and removable for disassembly. Like all the new pieces, they are available in all colour-ways from @smile.materials and are made to order, allowing for flexibility in dimensions. Designed for disassembly. This is another iteration in the ‘Stave’ series in the form of a side table made using thin 5mm sheets of recycled HIPS plastic from @smile.materials . Instead of glued sections, this design has a standing seam which allows 8 identical folded panels to be joined with a simple brass fixing, resulting in a lightweight but strong table weighing just 3.5kg. All elements of the table are removable, making it possible to flat pack for transport, replace a damaged panel, or to be disassembled for re-processing back into the recycled plastic supply chain. The nature of the design allows for custom sizing and forms suitable for a variety of applications - get in touch for more info. #recycledmaterials #sustainabledesign #designedfordisassembly

New Work: The ‘Stave’ collection of furniture is now available via the website. I have been using @smile.materials plastics for a long time now, experimenting with their recycled plastic material in various forms - this new series of work explores how ‘Staves’ or individual tapered panels can be joined to from multi-faceted volumes. This technique has long been used in traditional timber joinery, and it has been an interesting challenge to see how different materials can be shaped using this process. For commissions or enquiries about various colour-ways and custom sizing, please get in touch via email. #furniture #recycledplastic #smilematerials

Developing some new conical pieces from @smile.materials , expanding a collection of furniture I started a couple of years back, using one piece of thermoformed recycled plastic to form a simple volume. Day 2 of @clerkenwelldesignweek – have you spotted our new Earth materials and Dapples in the wild? We’re pointing the way to a circular future – transforming discarded plastics into 100% recycled and recyclable wayfinding that’s as practical as it is beautiful. Let us know if you’re following their lead… Special thanks to @make_relief for design and build. @exhibitprinting for decals, and @sparkandbell for pics ☺️

Some relief wall pieces from last year, working again with offcuts from production work - in this case salvaging some valchromat and course grained cork. #relief #design #designer #object #objectdesign #form #colour #relief #abstraction #geometric
