Lamane El Housseine is 76 years old, but he learned plaster sculpture at the age of 6, with his mother and brothers. "My father abandoned me when I was six months old, so it was my mother who raised me and introduced me to my brothers' work. She prepared all the instruments for me. When I came home from school, all I had to do was carve. My older brother Hassan did the Hassan II Mausoleum. Please meet the Masters 🏆❤️. “It’s been such a long time since I’ve been back here! Since 2006, when we finished the patio and the rooms. It takes 110 people two months to build a patio like this,” said Moulay Hafid, 84, the head master artisan who supervised the creation of La Mamounia’s zellige mosaics. He learned the craft from his family, who have made Zellige tilework for generations. Today he is one of the most celebrated Mâalems in Morocco.
