Don't Hug the Quokka! How could I possibly resist this book? The quokka alone was enough to win me over. I didn’t even bother reading the synopsis. Straight to checkout (fully judging a book by its cover haha), and honestly, no regrets. We started reading this right when Xiao Jojo discovered what a quokka is, and now he cannot stop saying it. He just turned two, so he might not fully understand the deeper message yet, but he absolutely loves the big ā€œNOā€ on every page. We’ve read this so many times that he now remembers when it’s coming and sometimes, he even says the ā€œnoā€ before I do, which is honestly the cutest part. One of the things I value most about this book is how it makes the concept of consent feel accessible for young children. I grew up in an environment where physical affection was often expected, not chosen. As a parent now, I’m more conscious about giving my child autonomy asking rather than instructing. I really appreciate how this story aligns with that perspective and encourages those conversations from an early age. The rhyming text flows really nicely and keeps it fun for little ones, and the illustrations are just adorable. Even though the quokka keeps saying ā€œno,ā€ it never feels scary or negative. Instead, it feels empowering and reassuring teaching children that it’s okay to set boundaries in a gentle, comfortable way. We also really enjoyed the author’s note at the end, which explains more about consent and body autonomy for parents. It adds a thoughtful layer to an already meaningful story. Such a lovely and important book for young children. Cute, fun, and with a message that really matters. āœļø @pajamabooks šŸŽØ @miapowell_design šŸ“š @maginationpress šŸ›’ @xylibear.id #ourlittlebookshelves #donthugthequokka #xiaojojodu #kidslit #picturebookreview

Happy publication day to A FEEL BETTER BOOK for LITTLE SLEEPERS, by Holly Brochmann and Leah Bowe, the @bsistersbooks and @maginationpress !šŸŽ‰šŸ„³ This is the seventh book in the Feel Better Book series, and I continually am so grateful to be a part of the team that brings these stories to children and caregivers everywhere. I had so much fun adding lots of details to Holly and Leah’s delightful and helpful words, thinking about those nights when my children were little. Cozy was the key, so adding stuffed animals, comfy pup and kitty comforters, more books, and parents and caregivers were a blast to paint. For the cover, there were other options for the stuffie, and I was so happy to hear Holly and Leah chose the dragon.šŸ‰ Like all of the books in the series, there is a wealth of information in the ā€œnotes to caregiversā€ in the back of this book on sleeping. You can find this series at bookstores, independent bookstores, @bookshop_org , @barnesandnoble , @apa_org , @maginationpress and elsewhere, and at the link in my bio. Thank you again Holly, Leah, and the awesome team at Magination Press for the honor of getting to illustrate this wonderful book. I hope it’ll help many little ones!šŸ˜“šŸ’¤šŸ„± #afeelbetterbook #afeelbetterbookseries #afeelbetterbiokforlittlesleepers #littlesleepers #maginationpress #bsistersbooks #apa #apabooks #kidlit #childrensbook #childrensbooks #kidsbooks #sleeping #helpfulbooksforkids #helpfulbooksforparents #helpfulbooksforchildren #art #illustration #childrensillustration #childrensillustrator #shirleysillos #shirleyngbenitez #sleep #sleepbooks

Happy International Children's Book Day! #ICBD When creating an APA Style reference for a children’s book with an illustrator, follow the template for books—from Section 10.2 in the Publication Manual—and add the illustrator’s name in parentheses after the title. Find more details and examples at /style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples/childrens-book-references (the link to our Reference Examples page is in our bio). Have you cited any children's books recently? What questions do you have about citing children's books or other books with illustrators? #APAreferences #APA7
