my first artist-in-residence recap and it had me in my thoughts and feelings š. thank you, @thestonewater for this opportunity ā„ļø

My art will be up for display at the @adidas Brand Store, Downtown Vancouver for the remainder of summer. Grateful for the opportunity through @girls.we.do.adore who have been such a vessel in providing space and safety for an artist like me to grow and share.
A reminder for me to celebrate the dreams that are coming true right before my eyes. Iām so quick to move into the next goal, to hold myself to a higher standard, and look so far ahead that it becomes dismissive of what I have accomplished.
I used to journal about these moments. Iām living my manifestations.

This piece has been a long time coming for me. Itās inspired by the dreams and aspirations of young athletesāthe kind of dreams that feel big, exciting, and sometimes out of reach. I wanted it to feel like that moment in childhood when you truly believe anything is possible.
Youāll see soft, flowing florals, bright stars, and movement throughout the piece. That dreamlike quality is intentional; it represents imagination, growth, and the journey of becoming.
Thereās also a strong sense of feminine energy here. I often feature this energy and symbolism in a lot of my work because itās always an ode to women and the feminine. This work specifically to honour the rise of women in sports, especially in professional basketball. Itās about visibility, representation, and showing young girls that they belong in these spacesānot just as participants, but as leaders and trailblazers.
I was also a basketball player growing up, still heavily involved in anyway I can to support young girls like myself to thrive in the world through basketball and mentorship.
By painting on a basketball backboard, I wanted to merge sport and creativity. At its core, Hoop Dreams is about holding onto that childlike wonder. Itās about dreaming bigger, pushing boundaries, and believing that nothing is truly impossible.
Proceeds for this piece will fund @vscreativelab ās Filipino Cultural Arts Tent at the Vancouver International
Childrenās Festival, offering hands-on, artist-led cultural
experiences for children and families.
Had to hop on this trend. This is what happens when you immigrate to North Vancouver in the early 90s from the Philippines šš¤š½ Loved growing up there. PS ā sorry to all my friends featured in this, haha.
