The Heritage Theatre Arts Festival (HTAF) 2026 is pleased to announce an open call for applications from theatre practitioners, performance artists, creative groups, and cultural organizations to participate in the 2026 edition of the festival.
HTAF is a vibrant platform dedicated to celebrating African heritage, storytelling, culture, and contemporary theatre practices. The festival brings together emerging and established artists to showcase original works that reflect social realities, cultural identity, innovation, and artistic excellence.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to: • Theatre companies and independent theatre makers • Performance artists (drama, dance, spoken word, physical theatre, puppetry, etc.) • Community theatre groups • Youth and student theatre ensembles • Cultural and interdisciplinary artists

#liveperformance Niekerk, at the Market Community Theatre in George — a warm, intimate space that made the experience truly special.
The crew welcomed us with such enthusiasm, and we were joined in the audience by members of the local group SiyaKhona, who do amazing work in traditional dance, gumboot dance, and singing. They shared a bit about their journey and expressed how inspiring it was to see “one of their own” on stage — a deeply humbling moment that reminded me why we do this work.
The audience was wonderfully engaged and appreciative. I’m so grateful to have been part of such a meaningful evening. ✨🎭
