SKY TO SOIL | 500T 16mm
“The combination of Kodak’s 7219 500T with Hawk’s x1.3 anamorphic glass for S16mm was impeccable for this project.
This unique set-up allowed us to compose a 2.39 frame using the Super 16mm film format and enjoy anamorphic characteristics. We used 500T stock for the whole shoot, for its low light capabilities and apparent grain. During day scenes, we corrected with an 85 filter. Amplifying the texture was rooted in the film’s visual language, and this combo of stock and glass got us hyped to play on set.
We were feeling the excitement of trying something new. This energy got us to move swiftly between different parts of LA with a tight schedule, and capture nuances of a romantic relationship that feels like it’s deflating.” -DP Nevo Shirazi
I take an image-first approach to storytelling, allowing mood, composition, and movement to guide the emotional core of a scene before dialogue fills in the gaps. In Sky to Soil, we leaned on body language, atmosphere, and visual subtext to communicate the weight of unspoken words. Celluloid’s organic texture brings intimacy and imperfection that mirrors the raw emotions at the heart of the film.” -Writer/Director Chasen Nuttall
