Socialism is a populist economic and political system based on public ownership (also known as collective or common ownership) of the means of production. Those means include the machinery, tools, and factories used to produce goods that aim to directly satisfy human needs.
Big ups to Bob and Andy and Kim (and @NalinSilva ) for their help getting me and The THESIS recognized in the Portland Business Journal.
It's not every day you see a socialist on the cover.
Pic1: Cover of the print edition of the PDX Biz Journal has a side view of Mac Smiff throwing a mic over his shoulder on the Kelly's stage. "The Next Stage" is splashed across the image and the side bar includes an image of Michelle Depass.
Pic2: A clip of the article in the physical mag shows Mac holding a mic and pointing out to an (imaginary) crowd.
Pic3: Online version of the article shows a front view Mac throwing a mic over his shoulder. In the food and lifestyle section it reads "Playing Out: How Portland's music ecosystem keeps artists, venue operators and promoters like Mac Smiff afloat."
The outpouring of love has been amazing. I appreciate the outreach, even if it seems overwhelming at times. I thank you all for your support, both silent and public.
Right now I'm working on unifying my people around this goal of reallocating money from emergency response to emergency prevention.
We do this by defunding the police.

The young homie @waynegrey_ never disappoints. He came thru @thethesispdx and dominated the stage, bringing everyone together when the crowd demanded an encore of his hit single, "Hotel". Be sure to check out his new album, "Contrast", available on all streaming platforms.
BIG shouts to the supporting cast: @mar_qeese made a stunning Thesis debut, @aft.fng and his amazing band made the trip from The Bay to bring us some culture, @salycesalyce reminded us that she's nice on the keys, and @istiojei brought the Latin vibes + PROPOSED TO HIS GIRLFRIEND ONSTAGE!
Truly an amazing night. Big ups @verbzthedj without whom none of this would be possible.

Since December 2014, myself (@verbzthedj ) and @macsmiff have thrown @thethesispdx , a home for Portland music, a community grown by generation, creatives coming together to be heard and seen. A space to be you on FULL BLAST.
For the last few years, we called @lollipopshoppepdx our home. They graciously gave us an environment to put community first. We thank them for that & the entire team for their work on our show.
Weāll see you at Alberta Street Pub as we continue our legacy.

Against all advice, I pulled up at George Floyd Square after dark by myself without an escort, and as a result I got to meet the people who REALLY occupy the square.
A Black abolitionist named Maestro greeted me, and after I took some pictures of the space, we chatted for about 30 minutes about the realities of the neighborhood. He showed me the exact spot where George Floyd died. He thanked me for not being a weirdo tourist and took interest in my story, so I told him the real stories of Portland's last decade of protest. Told him about the murder of Kevin Peterson Jr, about the Proud Boys, about PPB, about ICE, about Hennessee, the sundown towns, the PDC, Albina, Vanport, all that bullsh!t we deal with in and around Portland. Bro pulled out a pad and took notes.
I told him how I was getting arrested and shot at 5 years ago, and how now I work for the City, and my fight to keep it the realest in the most colonized position.
He gave me inspiration that I didn't expect, and I think I gave it back. The revolution never dies, it just changes. Can't wait to get back to Portland and continue in this rich tradition I'm blessed to be a part of.
When i moved to Oregon, one of the first showcases I heard about was @thethesispdx && i was immediately intrigued. The energy and the vibes alone made me wanna be a part of it all. So it brings me great pleasure to share with yall that i will be headlining @thethesispdx a week from today!
