Langstane Place is Wasps' studio provision in Aberdeen, which has looked after the city's artist community since 2005. The former print works offers 30 studio spaces to painters, printmakers, ceramicists and textile artists, including Lynne Hocking. Lynne has been a handweaver since 2016, and was previously an academic scientist in the field of human genetics. She explores scientific concepts through data physicalisation (giving physical form to information) and material exploration, developing handwoven textile objects that promote conversations about heritage, connection to place, and identity. Her focus is on her family's connection to the weaving trade in north-east Scotland that stretches over at least seven generations. 📸 Photography by Abermedia. #WaspsStudios #ArtistStudios #AberdeenArtists

BODY-SCAPE!! Another moment on the grid for this beauty, whose lumps and bumps are valleys and hills traversed by time and guided by physics. Human geology in material form across 50,000 years, carried in DNA. . . #LynnesLoom #BodyScape #DNA #genetics

VIEWPOINTS!! This here is one of three beautiful windows in my studio. Each windowsill is its own mini-display case x bricollage of objects. Each one completely different. This one holds space for two “community cloths” created by visitors to open studio events - records of visitors, experimentation, experience. There’s also a collection of items - some made, some brought back from international projects, some gifted. All reminders of wonderful moments from the past, and invitations to future adventures ❤️ . . #LynnesLoom #viewpoints #CommunityCloth #bricollage #adventures

WHAT A RIDE!! “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a ride!”” . . This Hunter S Thompson quote is irrevocably tangled with memories of grandad, who would be coming up for 102 in a few weeks if he was still here creating mischief. . . This evening, it’s applied more facetiously to my v1 (2020 / covid-era) SHOP LIFTER tote by @subvertiser , hanging proudly here alongside a newer version at the @NuartAberdeen merch stand. Stained, stitched, faded; held together by love and badges; still creating mischief among shop security guards and conversations with strangers. . . Poetry is in the streets. Love is the theme. . . #LynnesLoom #WhatARide #ShopLifter

DREAM / GRAFT / GRAFFITI!! All the celebratory feels this morning catching my pal @v2k_art working on his own wall for @NuartAberdeen 2026 - “poetry is in the streets”. This is what happens when you dream, you imagine, and you graft for it. Big love ❤️ . . And it was extra special to catch the work in progress, and spot resonances between the fragmented text and the woven stencils I’ve played with 🕸️ . . Check out the DIY OR DIE blog on my website for more on this. . . And catch V in action in the streets of Aberdeen for the next few days, plus lots of official Nuart festival fun into the weekend. . . #LynnesLoom #dream #graft #graffiti #DIYOrDie

MALLEUS MALEFICARUM!! With a brief as resonant as the book is ancient… I’m filled with gratitude to be participating in a group exhibition for @RomanianCreativeWeek.ro , one that challenges power structures based on fear and deeply internalised obedience to systematic violence and persecution. . . This is my call from the foremothers, those portals to the present day and the future, whose energy has been subverted, whose knowledge denied. . . This work is its own text, a response to the “witches hammer” book of 500+ years ago: a reminder that power is written into the DNA that mothers pass on to ALL their children. It is a call to all those children - of all ages - to remember who and where they came from, and reimagine a better future. . . It’s a huge “get tae fuck” and also “come home” to every broken human who imagines that their better future emerges from present day harm to others. . . Huge love to Marlene @kraft_made for the care and attention that has gone into creating this opportunity, with big hope for some change. . . #LynnesLoom #MalleusMaleficarum #Romania #matriarchy #CallToAction

LA LINDOSA!! Photos of photos of art/identity/life/beliefs, painted onto rocks in the Amazonian foothills by (perhaps) ancient predecessors. . . There are some lovely textile, weaving and knotting references, rendered in ochre on cliff faces. Soft meets hard, timelines collide. . . There was a wonderful temporary exhibition on at the Gold Museum in BogotĂĄ that covered all the disciplines and ways of knowing being activated to better understand these walls and their stories. So much ingenuity - human and non-human - in one place. . . #LynnesLoom #LaLindosa #timeline

SHINY, HAPPY!! Another selection of objects from the Gold Museum in Bogotá, this time clay forms of humans, animals and polymorphs - celebrating the diversity of human forms, and cosmological belief systems. Women and animals as portals between worlds; animalhumans transcending worlds. . . The details of the bodies and the textiles upon them in these are just… delicious. And the clay rollers used to apply woven patterns in paint onto skin? Chef’s kiss! . . #LynnesLoom #HappyShiny #GoldMuseum #Bogota #clay

ALL THAT GLITTERS!! …isn’t gold, and the same is true in the Gold Museum in Bogotá. No anthropological survey of craft among culture would be complete without textile and clay alongside the metal, and sure enough there are some shining examples among the glittering gold. Clay spindle whorls and spun yarn plus finished textile objects. . . #LynnesLoom #AllTheGlitters #GoldMuseum #Bogota #textiles

ALL THE GOLD!! Some treats from the Museo del Oro in Bogotá last week - stunning gold pieces created by a range of communities across time, referencing ritual, place and cosmology. Beautiful filigree, wax carving, and hammered plate. Plus some woven copper-y vessels 😍 . . #LynnesLoom #AllTheGold #MuseoDelOro #gold #Colombia

TEXTUROS!! So many layers - time, identity, history, geography, climate. . . After a busy programme of activity around the Confluencia exhibition, I’ve had a lovely couple of days to walk around parts of Cali. Like every new place, there are so many details of everyday life that catch my attention - background foregrounded. . . #LynnesLoom #texturos #texture #confluencia #cali
