D’Angelo - Voodoo I’ve always considered myself a fan of D’Angelo, the pioneer of my favorite music genre “Neo Soul”. So when I saw that a category theme was dedicated to him for the Notorious Ball it allowed me a reason to start deep diving and to learn more about the man behind the music. What I learned is that behind the body and suave demeanor resided a man who was both really shy and reserved. That resonated with me deeply, how someone so shy could also be a beacon for raw human intimacy. His willingness to bear all allowed us a sneak peak into what true sexual liberation is. His unchallenged devotion to Pan-Africanism and honoring our ancestors through music is also something very dear to me. We lost a real one! But that’s what I love about Ballroom, it gives us the opportunity to honor those who’ve laid the ground work before us. I was really looking forward to showing you what I’ve been working on but unfortunately the Ball was shutdown. I was ready to pop out in a big way, but you’ll have to wait juss a lillll longer. I still wanted to pay homage to D’Angelo’s Voodoo era in my own Lvteef way. I hope you enjoy it. Photo/Editing: @kaiocsr
